I found the picture under a site that claims to list the 100 most important photographs ever. I suspect that is as objective as we are going to get.Something objective to back that up?

And, although it is a picture that grabs and holds you, there is nothing intrinsic in the picture that would give it that status. It has that status because of the reaction to it.I found the picture under a site that claims to list the 100 most important photographs ever. I suspect that is as objective as we are going to get.
Correct-the site also has the picture that helped turn the Tet offensive froman overwhelming victory to defeat. I am sure you know which picture on referring to.And, although it is a picture that grabs and holds you, there is nothing intrinsic in the picture that would give it that status. You only read bits of the linked material didn’t you? You could not possibly have read the entire PDE material and come to the errant conclusion you have. From your link: IMO, you are looking to the PDE to morally excuse people from showing graphic pictures where children can see them.
And your comparison is out of place. Thus, my comparison to people trying to use a technicality to allow them to push the limit.

It hasn’t been used in this thread. What part of that do you adamantly refuse to hear?I actually don’t like the way it’s being used in this thread.
Really, how very charitable of you to point that out.I’m sorry you got offended by my observations. It just made me chuckle.
An anthill?Shooting at an anthill with a machine gun is overkill if you get my meaning.
My thoughts exactly.An anthill?
I do, indeed.Correct-the site also has the picture that helped turn the Tet offensive froman overwhelming victory to defeat. I am sure you know which picture on referring to.
I don’t. Is that the photo of the little girl running?I do, indeed.
Great, as far as it goes. Doesn’t do much to prove that “everyone in America saw that picture–including children,” that it was shown indiscriminately in public to children ages 2-7, that any children ages 2-7 that did indeed see it did so without the intent or cooperation of their parents, etc.I found the picture under a site that claims to list the 100 most important photographs ever. No its this one-I don’t. Is that the photo of the little girl running?

Could you give a link to the list?

Well, I have a feeling they wouldn’t be interested. My standard answer to those who cite relatives to back up a claim – ask them to come on this thread and post their own answers.
I was 5 years old in 1968. I have absolutely no recollection of seeing this image until I was at least a teenager if not later. Nor have I ever seen this one from the same time periodNo its this one-

My Mother (82) knew exactly what it was. Then my dad was fightng in the South Pacific then so perhaps it stuck with her more.Well, I have a feeling they wouldn’t be interested.Trust me…internet discussion board aren’t their “thing”. Regardless, I asked them, and they answered me. It’s not exactly a “claim” i need to “prove” anyway…just an observation on my part, which made me feel you exaggerated a little.
I don’t buy that you do not have to prove your claims. I think if you are going to say that Vern is exaggerating, then you should say why you think so. Otherwise the rest of us are not going to put much store in your OPINIONS.Well, I have a feeling they wouldn’t be interested.Trust me…internet discussion board aren’t their “thing”. If you have never applied PDE how can you have an opinion on it? It is not an easy thing to apply. As for all that baloney about shrillness and defensiveness: a lot easier than simply saying you judged PDE prematurely isn’t it?When I say “using PDE” I mean “using it in this thread”/“bringing up it”, etc.
Thank you. Leave it at that.I’m sorry my “chuckling” seemed uncharitable.
Um… let’s see now… never?.You know, you threw out some offensive stuff here (how many times have you called me a liar??),
I have absolutely no trouble with reason and reference. Your ‘criticism’, as you so quaintly put it, has none.yet you seem to have trouble with my criticism.
