Fr. Tom Euteneuer criticizes Fr. Andrew Greeley

I know that back in the 80’s (?) he wrote some pretty awful and silly books (Cardinal Sins, Thy Brother’s Wife) which reminded me of Sidney Sheldon pulp with lots of raunchy sex. I think the books were only popular because they were written by a priest :eek: and hence somewhat titilating and scandalous. Fr. E. is correct: this man has been OBSESSED with sex for decades. Now he is projecting his own obsession onto Our Blessed Lord. For shame.
 
Father Greeley has only made my faith stronger. The sex scenes are mild, and, if you have ever bothered to read the note before it begins, or at the end, they are reflections of God’s love for us.
 
Yes, but he can not criticise Father’s books unless he does read one of his books or articles.

I think Father Greeley should be criticized for his liberality rather than his novels. The novels themselves are okay. Some of the characters are compelling. I wouldn’t call them great art.

I think it is an okay speculation to make that the women who surrounded Jesus had crushes on him. I think it is normal for women to have crushes on men they admire.

A crush is a normal human emotion. I’m sure though that these saintly women suppressed these emotions just as any virtuous woman does when she has romantic feelings to someone who is not her husband or intended.

I guess I’d have to read the Fr. Greeley’s book to see how he presents it. But, I really have no desire to read a book by a liberal priest.

Still, I have to say that something about Fr. Eutenheuer bothers me. I had a friend who heard him speak at a pro-life event, and she was very critical of his speech. I usually admire zealous priests, but Fr. Eutenheuer needs to work on his delivery.
 
Fr. Greeley is a priest in the Chicagoland area. He writes a weekly column for the Chicago Tribune. He is a well known Dissenter of the Catholic Church and a very few “Cafeteria Catholics” and many Catholic-bashers are really the only people I know who like him.

Greeley is basically the opposite end of the spectrum from Fr. Corapi, Fr. Altier, Fr. Groeschel, Fr. Euteneuer and the rest of our really great priests.

This is why you should not pray for just Priests (like dissenters Greely and Fr. McBrien from Notre Dame) but for “Good Priests” like Corapi, Altier, Groeschel and Euteneuer!

Why bother? he’s not missing anything, that’s why I replied the way I did.
 
Maybe you get nothing out of his books, but many people do, so he should judge for himself.

PLAL: Just because you label him a liberal, and say that he is not a “good” priest, does not make it so. Father Greeley has helped my faith more than any other priest known nationally.

how did he help your faith?
 
Yes Fr. Greeley’s books have sex in them and they are truly adult books. The one I am reading now seems quite good and the only sex in it is between 2 married Catholics. As far as I know married sex between to validly married Catholics is considered blest. Most of it is about how attracted a man is for his wife both her mind and her body. In this day and age to protray it this way is a good thing and quite countercultural. There are often discussions of Catholic faith in the book. Some of it has a more liberal bent that jumps out at me, but I’m from south of Chicago and more conservative. Now some of his other stuff is a quite liberal. As far as I was concerned if he has decided to control his sexual urges by writing and not acting them out that is a much better decision. Most of what I have read has a mystery surrounding it and the sex is just an aside. Some of his stories have “holy” men doing unholy things. We can’t say that has never happened before. Recently I saw him in an interview where the reporter tried to lead him to say that Jesus and Mary M had a sexual relationship. He very pointedly told the woman that no this would not have happened, but that any attraction would have been platonic. Doesn’t sound like he is going against church teaching. Some people better respond to the message Corapi teaches and some better to Greeley. I guess that is why God gives us both.
 
He helped me to come to know God’s love more than I ever had before.

His novels are modern day parables of God’s love, and made me realise that God’s love is infinite.

OK, we will try this again, How has F Greeley helped your Faith and helped you to come to know God better than ever before?
 
How truly sad,
This poor unfortunate Priest has done so much to tear down the true Faith in his PUBLIC dissent.
 
Nordar: Fr. Greeley has helped my faith by his novels, and homilies he has on his website. Not only do they show God’s love in a different way than usual, not just saying, “God loves you, accept that!” He shows this through stories.

He made me realise what Catholicism is all about: the love of God for us, and our love affair with God. Since realising this, I see things in a whole new light, and in the true sense God wants us to.
