Nordar: Fr. Greeley has helped my faith by his novels, and homilies he has on his website. Not only do they show God’s love in a different way than usual, not just saying, “God loves you, accept that!” He shows this through stories.

He made me realise what Catholicism is all about: the love of God for us, and our love affair with God. Since realising this, I see things in a whole new light, and in the true sense God wants us to.
Hang in there Pius 🙂 I am also a Greeley fan. I love the way he discribes how Catholics use all senes to worship God. He has that most beautiful way of discribing Catholicism then I have ever heard.

How truly sad,
This poor unfortunate Priest has done so much to tear down the true Faith in his PUBLIC dissent.
I hardly think one priest can tear down the Faith my friend. Have you ever read any of his books on Catholicism? I believe he has brought many back that might not have done so.

Yep that’s him very sad and scary that people actually think he is a good Priest.

Is this the Greeley we are talking about? Check this out!!
“The Gospel according to Greeley: Jesus was a Hunk”

suntimes.com/entertainment/books/282003,CST-BOOKS-jesus04.article
From the article:
"Women not only fell at Jesus’ feet, but washed them as well. Jesus was the “most attractive man” Mary of Magdala ever encountered, Greeley says, and it’s possible that Jesus fantasized about “making love” with her.

Before the explosion of clergy sexual abuse scandals, Greeley broke Roman Catholic taboos by writing about priests and even Jesus as sexual beings. He wasn’t the first, but the success of his steamy novels, scholarly books and mainstream articles forced the faithful to face an issue long ignored. "

If it’s possible " that Jesus fantasized about “making love” with her," then it’s possible that He also sinned in doing so. Not according to what the Church teaches, so Fr. G. is indeed casting doubt on the Divinity of our Lord. He overcame human passions, even though it was most difficult, as we see in the agony in the garden. He was tempted, yes, but never gave in, which is what we must do.

Blessed Lent,
Mimi

Anamchara: Thanks for your support. He really does show what Catholicism should be.

Mimi: It is not a sin to admire someone’s beauty. Quite the opposite, admiring the work of God is a good thing.

Nordar: I don’t believe it is for us to judge if he is a bad priest. Why does he make you sick? Because you do not agree with him?

On the contrary I can judge on whom I think is A Priest that is not in line with The Pope and the Magisterium of The Church. He makes me sick because he is not. He is a dissenting Liberal, the kind of Priest that should not be representing The Church.
If Andrew Greeley is one who shows us what Catholicism should be then we are ALL in a whole mess of trouble.🤷
And NO I do not agree with him, I am faithfull to The Pope and The Magisterium of The Church, so agreeing with him would be impossible.

Instead of slandering him, why not attack his arguments? Instead of slamming him, why not show what is “wrong” with his views?

Years ago, I was warned to “Stay away from Greeley”.

In my later years, I have read many of his books and find that he writes with a deep love of the Church and of God. He writes of the beauty of relationships of all kinds - familial, spiritual, and physical. All are gifts from God, and Fr. Greeley understands that.

He has taken spirituality out of the realm of the laminated prayer card and made it real.

I applaud him and his work.

Yes Fr. Greeley’s books have sex in them and they are truly adult books. The one I am reading now seems quite good and the only sex in it is between 2 married Catholics. As far as I know married sex between to validly married Catholics is considered blest. Most of it is about how attracted a man is for his wife both her mind and her body. In this day and age to protray it this way is a good thing and quite countercultural. There are often discussions of Catholic faith in the book. Some of it has a more liberal bent that jumps out at me, but I’m from south of Chicago and more conservative. Now some of his other stuff is a quite liberal. As far as I was concerned if he has decided to control his sexual urges by writing and not acting them out that is a much better decision. Most of what I have read has a mystery surrounding it and the sex is just an aside. Some of his stories have “holy” men doing unholy things. We can’t say that has never happened before. Recently I saw him in an interview where the reporter tried to lead him to say that Jesus and Mary M had a sexual relationship. He very pointedly told the woman that no this would not have happened, but that any attraction would have been platonic. Doesn’t sound like he is going against church teaching. Some people better respond to the message Corapi teaches and some better to Greeley. I guess that is why God gives us both.
I seen that interview as well and the interviewer seemed somewhat dismayed that Greeley wouldnt allow for that.

👋 It appears that Fr. Andrew Greeley no longer has a newspaper column… his website is shut down. Does anyone know of his whereabouts at the present time. I am trying to locate information for a poster at the Meet and Greet thread.a priest.
If anyone has any information on this matter it would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Catherine

Regardless of your opinion, he is an ordained representative of Jesus on earth…and leading a great many to Him.
He makes me sick because he is not. He is a dissenting Liberal, the kind of Priest that should not be representing The Church.
He is one of the best representatives I have read.
If Andrew Greeley is one who shows us what Catholicism should be then we are ALL in a whole mess of trouble.
Andrew Greeley is one who shows us what Catholicism should be and how wonderful Catholicism would be if there were more like him.
And NO I do not agree with him,
That’s your choice…
I am faithfull to The Pope and The Magisterium of The Church, so agreeing with him would be impossible.
I don’t see the connection…

I read one of his books once, intrigued by the fact that it was written by a priest. I didn’t know who he was or anything apart from the blurb on the dustcover.

I am a prolific reader and own hundreds and hundreds of books. One of Greeley’s was enough for me. I can’t even remember what I thought about the book, I just remember that I put him on my not worth reading list of authors.

Regardless of your opinion, he is an ordained representative of Jesus on earth…and leading a great many to Him.
I have no idea if he is leading anybody to Jesus or not, and I don’t believe that has anything to do with my opinion of him.
He is one of the best representatives I have read.
Of all the wonderful Authors of books on Catholicism, you find him to be one of the best representatives you have read?

Andrew Greeley is one who shows us what Catholicism should be and how wonderful Catholicism would be if there were more like him.
Well I will take a pass on that, he does not show me what Catholicism should be.
That’s your choice…
Yes it is.
I don’t see the connection…
I already explained that so why don’t you get it?

Prediction: Father Greeley will have a tough time on Judgement Day for his public dissent from the Church he vowed to obey.
