My church’s Lent gift to all of us (who speak English) was “Lenten Meditations” by Fr. William Barry, SJ (whose bio is here ).

I read the first couple, and they seem pretty good and also very similar to what’s on the IgnatianSpirituality.com website, which doesn’t surprise me as the publisher of the book also publishes that website.

Has anyone else read the world of Fr. Barry? I see he has written many things besides the Lenten Meditations. What did you think of his work?

I first learned of Fr. Barry through the Sacred Space app (a daily prayer online/joint apostolate of Irish Jesuits and Loyola Press). Each week starts with a book excerpt of something to think and pray about throughout the week. The excerpts from Fr. Barry’s books especially resonated with me.

I bought two of his books: A Friendship Like No Other - Experiencing God’s Amazing Embrace and An Invitation to Love - A Personal Retreat on the Great Commandment.

The first one has given me some very helpful direction in recognizing God’s presence in my life and how I can relate to Him. The second one is organized as distinct prayer sessions meant to help pace yourself while actively applying the lessons. I am not very far in it yet but find the session titles appealing and am looking forward to the process.
