I don´t get it - I respect the sadness of some people in the need of help, but why in the world is this cry for help connected with the wish to hear less about other things? It won´t solve problems to talk less about different topics…

I really, really, really like his reply. It cuts through rhetoric and argument with a strong exhortation on how to live, not debate.

Perhaps one of the comments at the end of the blog answers the question. He writes:

“The opening paragraph of the letter strikes home, in a way. I remember that before the first Synod on the Family, our diocese put out a survey – “The Pope wants to know what your concerns are regarding families.” I filled it out; and then was taken aback after they Synod was over, that really none of the “day to day, life in the foxhole” issues that I listed seemed to be dealt with at all.”

But note that after commenting on the letter, Fr. Z actually does give a good exhortation and hopeful suggestions for regular Catholic families who feel neglected.
