Fragements of the host on clothing?

At Mass yesterday I saw a fragment of what I believed could be a fragment from the Host on my shirt. I receive the Blessed Sacrament on the tongue, so it’s entirely possible that what I saw was not a part of the Host. Just in case, however, I licked it off after swallowing the Host itself a minute or two prior to seeing the possible fragment. But then I saw many more “white fragments” on my shirt, much of which is probably just dry skin from my tongue and mouth. But then I started to worry that those fragments, too, were leftover from the Host that I had consumed.

Eventually I was able to suck and scrape and consume every last fragment of whatever it was that I had on my shirt. So my question is: was this the right thing to do? What should I do with my shirt, since there is no longer any visible fragments on it?

I’m rather scrupulous, so none of my concerns may be grounded in reality, but I wanted to ask just in case.

I would wash my shirt and move on. There is no use worrying about this now.

If it sets your mind at ease, take a bowl full of water, and soak the clothing in it for a few minutes, then drain the water into the soil. After that the clothing can be washed as usual. Most likely it was not the Host, but this works if it was fragments of Host.

I really think you answered your own question here.

Your description of the white fragments and the fact that you had to suck and scrape them off tells me that they weren’t part of the Host.

The Host is not made of glue.

If you think you have many particles that are the Host, simply shake them off into the flower bed. What doesn’t shake off isn’t the Host.

Dismiss the scruple and do not do anything regarding such “little speaks” as I quote you referring to above (now or in the future)

(except have a regular confessor to guide you)…do give it another thought.

(PS one can say by the way that what looks like little specks of flour dust does not involve the real presence…not they they were likely from the host here)

If you receive on the tongue, I don’t think you have any reason to worry about it at all unless the host had actually dropped on your shirt. I would not worry about it again.

It does seem pretty clear to me that you are suffering from scrupulosity, so talk to a spiritual director and do whatever he tells you, OK? Jesus loves you much more than you can possibly imagine and doesn’t want you to worry like this. May the peace of Christ be upon you!
