It was a JW publication. I said thank you very much but I was a catholic and preferred to read the literature of my own church. She brightened up and gave me a warm smile. Eagerly she opened the book to a certain page and pointed out a drawing on the page and said–“See, this book is for everyone. It even has a picture of the Pope.” There on the page was a drawing of Pope John XXXIII. On his tiara was the number 666 and the caption read, “THE SCARLET WHORE OF BABYLON”.
Ya gotta love 'em.

Hi Delores, I am not trying to impugn your honesty, but I was raised on JW literature and I can tell you that the JWs do not believe that the 666 is on the forehead of the pope, and never have believed that. They believe that 666 is a number which stands for the imperfection of man (as opposed to the perfection and righteousness of God) and that it applies to the one world government, which they believe is the United Nations Organization. Also, JWs do not use the expression “whore of Babylon,” the refer to the “Great Harlot” who is called “Babylon the Great” in Revelation 17. They do not believe that the whore is the Catholic Church alone, but rather, ALL the world’s “false” religions together make up the composite “whore” or “Great Harlot.” They do believe that trinitarian “Christendom”, both Catholic and Protestant, are the most guilty members of the whore in God’s eyes.

I think Jimmy Swaggart is the last person who should be talking about “Whores”.

Now I have to find a book that was published at least 40 years ago. The number 666 was on the pope’s crown, not his forehead. I believe it was a watchtower publication.

There are no footnotes of any kind where she cites any sources for her historical information, which, by the way, is all fouled up. She’s got her Constantines all messed up and then proceeds to tell us that he was the first pope, ignoring the fact that only a baptized Catholic can be pope and he wasn’t baptized until he was near death. That and the fact that there is a long list of verifiable popes from Peter on and she ignores these.

Even before this she creates a fabrication of Babylonian religion while subtly trying to infer that that is where our most holy faith originates. It’s full of historical inaccuracies and out-of-context Biblical proof-texting that any thinking humanoid will see through.

If the rest of her articles are as equally poorly written then I’d rank her right up there with the SDA for lack of scholarship and rhetorical propaganda.

To be honest, what I see here is a member of a collapsing religious ministry using anti-Catholic rhetoric to give themselves some tenuous credibility with the ignorant and sell books.

Her son also has an a-C article in that issue in which he asserts that we are the fulfillment of 2nd Timothy 4:3-4 which says, “3 For there shall be a time, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but, according to their own desires, they will heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears: 4 And will indeed turn away their hearing from the truth, but will be turned unto fables.” but the fact is that she’s concocted a fable about the Catholic Church and I see them as fulfilling 1st Timothy 6:10 which says, “10 For the desire of money is the root of all evils; which some coveting have erred from the faith, and have entangled themselves in many sorrows.” He erroneously asserts that we worship Mary and the saints and several other typically a-C allegations that only the historically and Biblically ignorant will believe.

It’s really kinda sad, but it also angers me that they would decieve people in order to get money for their books.
