Hasn’t PF heard… The Anglican have united with the church. It is the Anglican Odinariate. That is their way to complete communion with the Church.

What about people who started RC and went the other way? Seems like it would be a little naive to assume we’re always making progress.

I have no recollection of a pectoral cross being given at that moment. The ring was a very special one, however. It was Blessed Paul VI’s own ring, that he had worn when he was archbishop of Milan. It deeply affected His Grace. The gift was arranged such that it was a surprise to him and he was overwhelmed in the emotion of the moment.
The current archbishop did, however, present the current pope with a pectoral cross last year. It is a Cross of Nails, reflecting the cross that was made in 1940 from nails found in the bombed ruins of Coventry Cathedral, and which has become a symbol of reconciliation. (Coventry is now a centre for the work of reconciliation, and ++Justin served as a canon and leader of reconciliation at the cathedral earlier in his ministry.)

Thanks for this background information.

Are there many Anglican Ordinariates in Canada? I have not heard very much about them since their conception? Are they growing or how are they coming along?

I’d like to think this was the origin of my faux memory. But it isn’t. I been thinking that for years.

Or the pectoral cross given to Archbishop Rowan Williams by HH John Paul II?

I often wonder about the definiton of Anglicans. It seems a bit ambigous and divided into several denominations.

I didn’t spend much time to read all informations about the church but the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) makes the impression of a solid catholic oriented church on me. They don’t have full recognition from the Anglican communion but they expressed their will to gain it in the future.

Is anyone here part of the ACNA? It would be interesting to hear your opinion about the popes apporach.
Yes I was thinking that too … Well, more precisely I was thinking “Anglicans moved further away from Catholicism rather than closer” … but I guess moving away from Catholicism is the same as running off the rails, am I right? 🙂

As to your first para, my yes, indeed, with bells (amd sometimes smells) on. It’s a motley tale. Many flavors of Anglicans.

As to the ACNA, they are mostly orthodox, and split from the Episcopal Church for that reason. But they do allow for female ordination, so styled. It is a point of division in the ACNA. A shame, that.

Hi. Initially I wasn’t going to participate on CAF at all today, but then I thought I had better save my willpower for fasting, so I’m here but just a little bit. 🙂

Anyhow, answer to your question is one – or one half you might say because it covers the USA as well as Canada.

We have one parish here in Calgary. St John’s in inglewood. I was there a couple weeks ago for a wedding Mass. It was a beautiful high Anglican mass. I can’t wait to go again.

I guess I was wondering how many churches or members there are in the U.S. and Canada. I have heard very good things about the liturgy and Mass as well as music.

The site for the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter says 43 parishes, of which maybe 6-7 seem to be in Canada. I didn’t see the total membership but have heard it is in the low thousands, 5-6 K maybe.

Overall it looks roughly the same as 2-3 of the major Continuing Anglican jurisdictions, combined.

All figures subject to correction.

Added: as in, a closer look suggests 10-11 of them are in Canada.

I believe there is a community somewhere in Metro Vancouver but I haven’t made it out there. I have been to the parish in Calgary, Alberta, which has its own historic Anglican church building - with a rood screen even. Greatly enjoyed experiencing Anglican style high mass there.
