Franciscan Tau Cross Necklace

I recently purchased a Franciscan tau cross necklace on a cord (like in the picture below). I’ve seen Secular Franciscans and other ordained Franciscans where these necklaces; are they only for those who belong to the Orders, or can anybody wear them?

Of course anyone can wear them - whether to honour St Francis or simply because they’re a beautiful cross. They can make for some good discussions too (usually prefaced with people asking you if your name begins with ‘T’, of course )

Anyone can where them.

They are the habit or sign of the Secular Franciscan order, so it can lead to confusion if people assume anyone wearing one is a Secular Franciscan.
