If it is mocking the pope, it should not even be posted here on CAF at all. That’s all I will say.

And what do our Lutheran brethren here make of these videos? Are they an attempt at interfaith dialogue?

Lutheran satire has some good videos, but this isn’t one of the ones I’m willing to watch.

How is recommending an update of “lead us not into temptation” to “let us not enter into temptation” retranslating the Our Father? On what planet is it retranslating the entire prayer by slightly altering a couple words?

Also, Frank is a derogatory diminutive used to disrepectfully and mockingly refer to the Holy Father, and at absolutely no time should it ever be used by any Catholic, or even any Christian, or even any civilized human being. It’s incredibly inflammatory and immensely immature.

@Maximilian75

Take note anybody who sees this.

Now THAT is a faithful Catholic attitude.

I’ve done the same thing on here Maximilian - it’s a sign of spiritual maturity when one is open to correction and publicly acknowledge when you were previously not fully in line with Catholic thought. It’s not an easy thing to do - it’s a blessing of the Holy Spirit to be led to a deeper knowledge of Truth through constant repentance and growth.

I got a few good laughs out of it 🤣

I watched a couple of minutes. It wasn’t very well-done satire and seemed to be more mocking the way the Church was circa 1975, when you actually did have “hippie” priests running around, than the Pope today. Pope Francis does not seem like this to me at all, so it’s like they just made up a character.

They still rotate these guys in my diocese ‘shudder’
I think in my diocese, they all quit the priesthood years ago and married former nuns. I wish I was kidding. I’m not.
It seems like all the priests nowadays in my diocese are either very old, very no-nonsense/ business-minded/ traditional, or just came over from a foreign country.

I agree. It’s satire guys—calm down. Our pope isn’t above reproach. My parish pastor is actually a huge fan of those hippie pope videos.

The Lutheran pastor who puts them up is a good guy. Super compassionate with his flock and a great Christian example. He also lampoons bad Lutherans, so no one is left out. 😉

It’s just a little satire. Choose to be offended, or choose to learn from it.

I’m not offended, it just doesn’t seem to relate much to Pope Francis. If it was about a random 70s hippie priest, it would be funnier.

I also didn’t know these came from a Lutheran pastor. I have to wonder about the judgment of a church leader who would publicly post stuff mocking the leader of a different church. That’s just weird.

Well, mocking the Pope is a perennial Lutheran tradition afterall… he’s simply following in the footsteps of the founder of his sect.

Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. We Catholics tend to prattle on and on about tolerance, turning the other cheek, being open minded, and treating the protestants as our brethren. And this is the proper Christian and Catholic attitude. But, we should acknowledge that this attitude is not shared by non-Catholics, be they lutheran, baptist, hindu, muslim, jewish or anything else.

Hans Fiene claims that Lutheran Satire merely catechizes Lutheran doctrine by exposing and poking fun at other Christian Churches and ecclesial communities and their “errors” in a “satirical” way.

However, the irony is that you have someone not in full communion with the Catholic Church scrutinizing, albeit satirically, other anathematized and schismatic Christian sects and individuals. It’s like error criticizing error under the guise of humor, which I guess is hilarious in itself.

It gets super ironical when this individual criticizes, again satirically, the Church that Jesus Christ founded and its Vicar. He belongs to a Lutheran synod that publicly and explicitly confesses to believe the Pope to being the anti-Christ. Although I have personally witnessed him being very ecumenical towards others, I just find his project to be at many times very hypocritical, satire aside.
