OK, this is probably a REALLY long shot, although does anyone live in, visited, lived there, drove through Frankenmuth, MI?

If so, would you live there, if you had the choice and a really good job?

Feel free to PM me.

I’ve visited it on several occasions. It’s pretty, seems like a nice small-town community, and is not too far from either Flint and Saginaw for some of the amenities available in bigger towns. The only caveat is the tourism factor- it is a HUGE tourist trap, especially on weekends. I don’t know how much that would affect the locals, though. I doubt any of them live too close to the main drag.

In today’s economy, though, I doubt I would let tourism keep me away from a really good job opportunity. Like I said, it seems to be a nice town, and I’m betting that you could get some decent deals on real estate.

WOW!!! That took a fraction of the time I thought it would!!! 😉

(I really didn’t expect any replies 🤷 )

What is there that is tourist worthy??? No offense, but so far I have only seen googles image from ??? ft above.

There is a HUGE Christmas store in Frankenmuth.

“Bonner’s CHRISTmas Wonderland”

Its been years since I’ve been through there. As I recall it was a very cute touristy town that pretty much built up around Bonners and the Bavarian German influence of the area.

I have lived in Michigan for about 3.5 years and have been wanting to get up there due to my Bayerischer Deutscher heritage. Unfortunately, with my schedule at work, I have not been able to

I’ve been there a few times. I’m an insurance agent and I have been to Frankenmuth Insurance. I can’t really say I’d go to visit for non-work issues, but it’s very much a work environment in my mind.

OK, does anyone know if they get snow that covers your house there???

Well, I bet the beer is great!

Peace

Tim

Yes, I’ve been going there every year (at least) since I’ve been born (28 years:-)

The town itself is “touristy” and very nice. There has been lots of expansion in recent years as far as the stores and hotels go. One of the newer hotels has an indoor waterpark (Zehnder’s), and another hotel (Bavarian Inn lodge) has a number of swimming pools, indoor minigolf, and children’s activties. The Bavarian Inn and Zehnder’s also have stores and are “famous” for their chicken dinners. Of course, there is Bronner’s, the largest Christmas store in the world. Bronner’s has also expanded significantly in recent years.

Within the town are shops and other hotels. Nearby is Birch Run, which has a number of outlet stores and “regular” restaurants like Applebee’s, etc.

That area of Michigan gets a fair amount of snow, though I doubt enough to cover your house, unless there is a blizzard or something! It’s not close enough to the lakes to get significant “lake effect” snow, or far enough up north to get tons of snow. Frankenmuth is about an hour and a half away from me (Detroit area).

Would I live there? Probably not, but only because I prefer cities and suburban areas. Maybe if I found a better job up there.

Small towns don’t bother me anymore 😃 I was raised in a town of 2,050. When I was younger I couldn’t get to a city fast enough, although now as long as I am at least an hour from major shopping I can do it!! 😛

No, not on this side of the state. We do get snow, but there’s not usually more than a foot on the ground at any given time. Probably a little more up there, since it’s further north, but not enough to make a big difference.

For a bit more info on the touristy side: Frankenmuth.org

There’s not really that much snow. I don’t go to Frankenmuth often, but I’m only about 40 miles north when I’m living at home. If you were going to the UP I’d tell you to get snow shoes, but our part of MI is not bad. There’s often not much snow until early January. When it does fall, usually its about 3-5 inches at a time at the most.

Frankenmuth is in the Diocese of Saginaw, Bp. Robert Carlson’s diocese.

The parish in Frankenmuth is Blessed Trinity. It’s website is here.

Is the place the 3 wise men picked up the stuff to take Baby Jesus??

I visited there once, or twice, or thrice. Its very…German, so if you like learning about German and German-like cultures, its a great place to visit. I do not remember if it’d be a good place to live and work, as I wasn’t concerned about that as a child. The thing I remember most is that my grandparents [God rest their souls] did not like the “Germanese” food. It makes me giggle considering they always had their own American versions of the same stuff and with different names. Their “American attitude” always cracked me up and sometimes downright annoyed me.

I’m sorry I’m not much help, but I thought you’d appreciate the brief recollection of a bit of my childhood.

I’ve lived 20 minutes from Frankenmuth most of my life.

They are in fact a tourist town, and they push that image with every act they take.

There is a quieter part of town, to the north, where the locals hang out, do their shopping, etc.

Lovely homes, good schools, highly Lutheran (including the Lutheran seal on the city logo!), and not diverse at all – the local joke is, “What do you call an African-American in Frankenmuth? A tourist.”

I think that’s true for much of the mid-Michigan/thumb area smaller towns. DH is from Owosso and according to him there was one black family, one Asian family, and two Hispanic families in the public school system when he was there. 🤷 At least Frankenmuth does bring in diverse tourist groups.

The census report we looked at said they had 40 AA and 20 Asians, I can’t remember how many Hispanics they said.

Since we are adopting and are open to any race, that is kind of a concern for me
Do you know if Saginaw is more diverse?? If so does anyone know how far of a drive it is from Saginaw to Frankenmuth?
