There’s a saying that I learned from a doctor friend (it is often mentioned in med school): “When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.” In other words, try to think first of the most common, likely reasons for something, rather than jumping to wild conclusions.

It’s something I need to try to take to heart, and don’t do a very good job at. I tend to be a worrywart, especially with medical things, and imagine the wildest “zebras” ever! Try to think of this; often, if something is really bad, the office will call you pretty quickly. As you called them, most likely it is a privacy issue, compounded by the fact they closed early Friday.

Those conversations do cast a dark shadow over weekends. though; believe me, I know.

God bless.

First of all, I want to thank everyone who responded. Truly, your perspectives helped me get through the weekend.

AND…

All tests were negative. As a poster suggested, it was because of the type of tests that they couldn’t tell me on the phone…:extrahappy: :extrahappy: :clapping: :clapping:

I did tell the nurse about how my phone call to the office had left me with the impression something was wrong, and how that had been quite stressful…she agreed there were better ways to communicate about this kind of thing and said she’d look into it…which I appreciated.

Thanks again for helping me:thumbsup: 👍 👍

HOORAY!!! :clapping:

And I hope you can still get into those pants! LOL

God bless,

mary

Sometimes I think I come across as a total disaster on this forum!!:o It’s just been a tremendously hard time since mom’s diagnosis last fall and my back surgery…and then this morning a cortisone shot in the foot for torn tendons and then on the other foot the Dr. cut off a part of my big toenail OUCH :crying: I’m afraid I said a bad word when he jabbed a knife under my not-yet-numb nail!!! But I know this will ALL pass, and I so look forward to having all medical things dealt with and getting a new job, getting an answer on my anullment, and starting RCIA this fall…

I’m really a pretty strong person, just been under so much stress for too long…

Here’s the news…just got a JOB INTERVIEW for tomorrow!!! 2 minutes from my house:thumbsup: Could be the break I’ve prayed for…Of course, what shoes to wear:hmmm:

I am sorry to hear about your mother.

But do not worry, There are people worse off than you! 🙂 Take me for example, as I write this, I am recovering from my 5th knee operation and am looking forward to elbow surgery later this year. During the course of my relatively short life, I have had surgery 12 times, all but two for injuries, (think Darwin Award) including successfully reattaching a severed hand. That does not count the half-dozen or so times I have broken my nose, or the time I drove a nail through my thumb, or the time I broke a dish while washing it and cut the artery in my wrist, or the time I fell down in the backyard and found the only piece of broken glass embedded in my hand, or the time when I was 12 when I accidentally made a bomb and got the shrapnel in my leg (removed 33 years later), or the time I ran through a closed glass patio door, or the two times time I cut my face in separate car accidents, or the time I broke some ribs while recovering from knee surgery, or the time when… Well, you get the idea.

So relax, you’ll be just fine!

CONGRATS AGAIN–I will say a pray that you are enlightened with the right words to say during your interview.

Shoes–navy or black are good staples for job interviews.

You’re in my prayers for healing, as well…

Good luck on your interview…please let us know how it goes.🙂

I know what you feel like. I’m generally a “together” person myself, yet it seems like every time I meet new people on whom I’d like to make the best impression, my life is crazy! I just want to wear a big sign on my forehead that says, “My life is not USUALLY this nutty!”

I pray you’ll have favor in the job interview. Let us know how it goes!

I’m so happy for you and can empathize with your great relief. We do worry ourselves into frenzies, don’t we? And MOST of the time, it is over nothing. It’s those OTHER times we’re thinking about, though… 🙂

You certainly have a lot on your plate, so it is completely understandable that things seem to loom large right now…

God bless.

Wow - I just don’t see all the angst over this!! I’ve never seen so many red faces in one thread I’m sure!

I have worked in a medical lab before, and there is nothing sadistic or mean about how this office has handled this. It’s just how things work, and I think it is much healthier to just not get so worked up about it. My gosh - in the grand scheme of things, what difference will it make knowing two days sooner? It’s not as if you can DO anything on a Friday afternoon with an unfavorable diagnosis aside from having a really crummy weekend. At least with not knowing you have the benefit of at least hoping for the best!!! It is not as if she is hearing that she has three days to live and, oops, we wasted two of them over the weekend!!

No one needs to be fired here for doing their job - now that make me use a  . Medical professionals have a very very difficult job - they have to please everyone: patients, doctors, managers, government, insurance companies. They can’t just blow with the wind to make everyone all warm and fuzzy all the time. Sometimes we just need to patient patients. 😉

Ummm nooooo. That is inhumane to expect someone to wait around a whole weekend full of “what ifs”. I see more and more these days that the medical profession needs to use more COMMON SENSE and COMPASSION!! Geez, they really hadnt a clue that maybe it isnt a good idea to call someone like that and do that??? I mean really~they dont know??? Need to be patient patients??? Sorry I disagree!! Drs need to take their know it all, “I am god” attitudes and figure out a better way to run thier offices more efficently. Thank God, my dd is never ill, but look out when we do go in~you are gonna get a 4-5 HOUR wait in the waiting room and another 1-2 sitting in the exam room…same thing when I was pg for dd, it was an all day adventure…🤷

To the OP~Glad to hear the news was good!! God is good!!!
