So there I was, driving my van on a suburban commercial street. This is not, strictly speaking, a family matter, but I want to explain.

Next to the VFW hall, there were a group of people, both adults and their children, all dressed in red T-shirts. They had a homemade sign reading “free car wash.”

I pulled my van into the parking lot, and the car washing commenced. A whole crew of parents and kids performed an outstanding hand wash of my van.

I found out that this was a local church group ( but not Catholic ) doing good deeds.
What’s more, I was offered a free lunch while the washing continued.

I offered the pastor a small donation, but he said donations were not being accepted.

Driving away in my now sparkling clean van, I had a good feeling about this experience.

:D:thumbsup: That’s awesome! What a blessing that was to you and others.

Now, if only you could get a group of Catholic kids from your parish to do the same thing or something similar 😉

I dig the fact that donations were not being accepted. That made it a true Christian act of charity, since so often donations are not only accepted but expected for activities like that.

I love that!

I once heard of a K of C group which did something similar, in that they let the pastor know that a lot of them had general handyman-type skills, and if the pastor knew of an elderly or disabled person who needed some plumbing/electrical work/yardwork/whatever done, he should let the group know so they could coordinate it. They did this not just for parishioners, but for people in the neighborhood, whether they were Catholic or not. I thought this was a FANTASTIC act of service, and something that more Catholic groups ought to do.
