I am a freshmen at a public college and my RA said he had a big box of free condoms laying on his desk in case we ever need some. The university itself even sponsors programs promoting contraception. As a Catholic I am offended, but nobody else seems to mind. It seems that it is promoting contraception. Should I make an issue out of this and risk mockery by going to an administrator or just let it slide?

Could you maybe email the administration? Or possibly send an anonymous note? I feel that both of these would protect your emotions and college life, while still getting your point across.

God bless! 🙂

Since its a public collage, I dont know how much you can do, maybe you could let the catholics stand together against this?

This is the world in which we live. If you can transfer to a Catholic university that would be best. If not, try to get some other Catholics at the university together to protest this. Stay strong brother, God bless.

Tell him you are hungry and wonder if he could stock a big pile of sandwiches on his desk to help take care of your needs. If he is so concerned about the students he should jump at the chance to provide you with some good food for your physical appetite.😃
I would have to tell him he is way overstepping his bounds. He sounds kind of creepy.

This is pretty common in universities. My first year of university members of the LGBT club would congregate in the tunnels to get from building to building and hand out condoms and dental dams. The ones with the dental dams were quite forceful and insisted that if we didn’t have dental dams we’d get HIV and die. I came from a Catholic education. I had no clue what a dental dam was or what that had to do with sex (I didn’t know about oral sex and actual lesbianism. In high school I was confused as to how homosexuals couldn’t be chaste seeing how it wasn’t physically possible for them to have sex. My first year of university was quite an eye opener for how messed up the real world is.)

My advice to you, pick your battles wisely. Wait until you have feminist instructors promoting abortion, homosexual marriage, and contraception. I failed my required women’s studies class because I defended all the the aforementioned using the theology of St. Thomas Aquinas. I was informed that women studies wasn’t a theology class and his works were not approved sources for my papers. I’m re-taking it by distance this year from a sociology instructor who’s a little more sane.

Yeah I remember at my college (which was private) there was an envelope of condoms taped to the wall in the bathroom. I noticed there was always the same number for a couple of months. I don’t think anyone was doing anything of that sort at my end of the hallway. Then one day there was less, and the guy a couple of doors down had a female “guest” there early in the morning. Too much information, without anyone even saying anything…

I think we should also look at it from the university perspective: they know their students are going to have fun. The best thing they can do is provide the necessary means for students to protect themselves. Ideally they should promote sex until after marriage. This teaching isn’t only believed by Christians but also by Muslims, Jews as well as other established religions as well. The only way they are going to do that is if all of these groups come together and promote it together. Get enough support from the student body then it will change.

My university was like this too… they gave out condoms in the student centre around Valentines day I think  I wish I could say that going to the administration could change something, but they probably don’t disagree with contraception and premarital sex, and would say something like: “well these are your beliefs, not everyone has these beliefs…” etc.

At the public university I went to, if you went to the student health center, they would give you a free brown bag of condoms (limit one per student per week). Some guy on our floor went and got some to use as water balloons. 🤷 Unfortunately, it was all paid for by our mandatory health center fee. So we were all paying for them.

I don’t know if this is the battle you want to pick, especially right out of the gate. From their perspective, it is not so much about contraception as it is about “safety” (and safety of students is – as it should be – very high on the list of priorities for a university’s administration) because “college kids are going to do what college kids do”. Until their fundamental worldview about the sanctity of sex and marriage changes, asking them to remove a box of condoms from the RA’s room is going to seem to them to be a nonsensical request akin to asking them to remove the emergency call buttons scattered across the campus.

There are most certainly places on all college campuses in dire need of evangelization and conversion. I don’t think I’d start with this in my effort to make a difference.

It would be interesting to find out if the university assumes liability for unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections incurred by students who use the university-supplied condoms. Do you have to sign a waiver to receive them?

Since when does a university provide any personal items for students? Likewise, there is no reason the university should need to provide “the necessary menas for students to protect themselves”. College students, just by virtue of the fact that they have achieved entrance into college, have proved themselves to be capable people. Therefore, they are perfectly capapble of going to their local KMart, WalMart, pharmacy, etc and buying a box of condoms, just as they do for any other personal item. For someone to tape packs of condoms to the bathroom wall is simply the result of someone’s agenda.

Public universities are supported in part by your tax dollars. If you don’t agree with the agenda, make your position known to the university. If the individual or organization who sponsors this give-away can be identified, maybe pressure can be brought on them to stop that. Especially if it involves any student organization that receives funding from the university.

I’ve seen groups passing out condoms, and Freshman year one of the classes that were chosen by the University was a Sex Ed Class (at least it was an easy A)

Normally I just ignore it and roll my eyes to myself. Honestly it makes me feel like they are zookeepers handing out muzzles to the animals that they know are going to bite at themselves. I agree that the University itself should never waste money passing those out especially since everyone in the school is an adult.

The use of artificial birth control, especially condoms and the pill, is the primary enabler of a culture which views recreational sex as a right, like free speech or the right to vote. It is this very culture which demands unrestricted access to sex as a recreational activity which also demands unrestricted access to aborttion.

Using or promoting the use of artificial contraception therefor, directly contributes to the demand for abortion. Not only that, but by promoting and enabling unbridled sexual immorality, use of and promotion of contraception helps to create the conditions which lead to fatherless families, disease, porography addiction and the broken marriages and ruined lives which result from it all.

Yes, we have to pick our battles wisely. But neither should we stick our head in the sand and ignore the issue. Contraception is a scourge, the root cause of many evils in this world including abortion.

I’m wondering if it might be possible to put out flyers with a short blurb explaining why contraception is a root cause of and direct contributor to abortion, divorce, disease, addiction, etc.

Im in the military and cannot any longer discriminate against homosexuality. I cannot say that two men living together with a sexual connection is wrong. I literally cannot utter these words in the workplace because if the wrong person heard it I could get into trouble for discrimination. It doesnt mean I am forced to condone it, it just means I cannot speak about it at work. Same goes for your issue. They will do what they will do and all you can do is urge people according to God’s laws. You wont get into trouble by saying its wrong but I doubt they will stop distributing them.

If this was a Catholic University then there would be a problem. You have to realize that not everyone that attends your university is Catholic and not all religions view contraceptives and birth control the same as Catholics do. I’d let it go.

Why on EARTH would you be “offended” by this?

Are you being required or coerced to use them?

Should Jewish students be “offended” that there’s bacon or shrimp available in the dining halls?

Should evangelical students be “offended” that dancing and/or smoking are permitted?

Really!
