Why don’t you do a Google search for cash only providers in your local metropolitan area? You might be surprised at what you will find. MRIs, ultrasounds, dental, urgent care, blood and urine testing, etc., all available for cheap because they’re not dealing with the overhead of insurance.
The expense of insurance and medical care has created a demand for these types of providers and they’re starting to spring up in a lot of different places. Another exhibit in showing how the ACA ain’t affordable for many of us. $1650 monthly premiums for a family? That’s for a high deductible plan where the deductible is another $12700. That’s a potential maximum of $32500 per year for that family. You think the family that grosses $80k per year can afford that? No they can’t, hence the expansion of the cash only provider sector. That $32k can go a lot farther with cash providers than through the insurance racket.
The poor have the emergency room where they can’t be turned away. Those who make less than $45k can get the subsidies. Most everyone else making less than $100k is screwed.
