A few years ago, I wanted to become a Free Mason when I turned 18. Then I found out I could be EXCOMMUNICATED for being a Free Mason. Now I want to become a Knight! But my main question is why are Catholics excommunicated for joining the Free Masons?

My Father was Grand Master of a masonic lodge and for one thing, Freemasons state that all religions are equal and that there are many ways to God. This directly contradicts Jesus who told us that the only way to God was through him.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

The seem to hold all religions equal and speak of a “Great Architect of the Universe” or something like that. I had not come to Christ before he died and so had no interest in learning about freemasonry nor debating my dad on it.

My father claimed that the Catholic Church was against freemasonry because the charitable giving of freemasons siphoned money away from the Catholic Church. Freemasonry simply will not admit that the the Catholic Church has legitimate theological disagreements with what freemasonry teaches and instead blame it on money or power and such cliche nonsese.

You should read a recent book titled “Unmasking Freemasonry” or something similar to that.

Freemasonry is not a social group. It is more like a cult that takes oaths of allegiance exclusive of church and God.

It is a much more serious issue than most people realize. If you get into this group, there is little hope you will re-surface in the one true church. I would consider this a trip down a one-way street. Avoid it at any price.

I was a Free Mason for many years although I didn’t attend many meeting. When I left the ELCA ( it is ok with them ) and joined the LC-MS, I resigned from the Free Masons to be in accord with their church policy. The main reason why I joined the Masons was office politics.

Check out this thread ; there may be masons hiding out in the apologetics forum 😃

The LC-MS take the view that it is a synergistic religion because all faiths including non-Christians can belong and there is no mention of Christ. The LC-MS does worship with other non-Christians.
