Free will and predestination

The Church says both that (a) we have free will, and (b) our fates are predestined.

Could you briefly answer (or link to me to a site that does so) the question: how can you say we have free will if God had mapped everything out from the beginning? Isn’t God creating souls, knowing that they will end up in hell?

The Church defines predestination differently than the definition that it appears you are using in this question.
