I was talking to my KofC insurance agent today and I mentioned free will and divine providence. I was talking about finding a catholic woman for a wife and I expressed I wanted to do God’s will for me and he said there was an overlap between providence and free will. Can anyone help make this more clear to me?
 
One simple, yet profound explanation regarding your situation is Proverbs 16.9, “A man’s heart devises his way: but the Lord directs his steps.”

You can and should plan if you will ever marry and whom you marry. But whatever happens, the steps you actually take, will lead you precisely where God has already determined for you to end.
