Why repentence few moments before death is forgiven but not few moments after death?

Because only in this world we can seek repentance. That’s what I know.

In this world, we have access to God’s mercy, but once we die there is only God’s justice.

Peace.

The brain will be dead after death so the soul and body will not be united to form the complete person again until the resurrection of the body.

We don’t know this for sure and thus the Church does not give us this information - to postpone repentance until after death.
