I have encountered several thread with the content that free will is an illusion. Here I try to open up the problem, clearly explaining that any attempt to understand the nature based on axiom of causality is false, and leads to epiphenomalism meaning that there is no room left for consciousness and free will.
First, consciousness is necessary for any change: Consider a system being in state of S. Assume that S causes (literal) another state S’. This means that both state S and S’ coexist upon causation unless S annihilated, before S’ is caused which is problematic since state S does not exist to cause S’ anymore. This means that we need consciousness as awareness of stat S upon its annihilation since consciousness can create state S’. I use create as consciousness is the most fundamental quality of universe and has the power of creation.
Second, free will is possible in presence of consciousness once options are realized. Options is simply the knowledge of State S.
Third, consciousness by definition is the ability to experience and create other state. It is simple and is the most fundamental quality of nature. We however observe a fantastic precision in many phenomenas described as laws of nature forgetting that this is the result of consciousness per se, as it was illustrated previously, nothing can change without presence of consciousness. In simple word, consciousness is the fundamental quality of nature and awareness is role maker. This means, that there exist one or more agents who are aware of situation all the time, all of them being consciousness.
