A Virginia rape suspect, who was released from jail because of concerns regarding the new coronavirus, went on to kill the woman who had accused him, according to police.

The Washington Post was first to report that Ibrahim E. Bouaichi shot and killed the woman in late July, after he was released April 9, according to the newspaper and Alexandria police.

Bouaichi was indicted last year on charges that included rape, strangulation and abduction. The woman, whom police identified as Karla Elizabeth Dominguez Gonzalez, testified against him in Alexandria District Court in December.

He was jailed without bond in Alexandria – until the pandemic hit. Bouaichi’s lawyers argued that he should be freed awaiting trial because the virus endangered inmates and their attorneys. He was released on a $25,000 bond over the objections of a prosecutor. . . .

I view the health risks of being in jail during a pandemic as one more reason to avoid committing crimes that would put me in jail, but maybe that is just me. Apparently 10% of Rikers inmates disagree. I sincerely hope that a higher percentage of members of these forums agree with me.

This is what happens when our justice system goes topsy-turvy. Heinous criminals have no business being allowed back into society. Their catching the virus while incarcerated – well, maybe that’s part of the punishment they deserve.

I see no reason why they can’t remain in prison with reasonable safeguards and precautions implemented to protect prisoners and guards right where they are. Masks, hand sanitizers, and as much distancing within the compounds as possible could help curb the spread without releasing dangerous felons back onto the streets. It won’t be ideal or perfect, but it could help some.

This is just one more example of how certain of our leaders have shown complete indifference toward their duty to their citizenry. And one more example of how their values have become completely skewed. Criminals are more important to them than the innocent people they had once sworn to protect and serve.

Hey, if these prisoners are so concerned about contracting COVID on the inside, then maybe they shouldn’t have committed the crimes that put them there in the first place. It’s their own fault, and society shouldn’t have to pay for it.

He was not a convicted rapist. In the United States, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty and the constitution requires that bail not be excessive. It seems to me that FOX is once again trying to make an agenda out of something routine.

This is one of those cases where we have to use the Golden Rule. If some one accused you of rape, do you think you should be held for years awaiting trial, or have the right to post bail and be free up until a conviction? If what you think happened here was wrong, then you have no right to complain if you were held without bail awaiting the trial to prove your innocence.

That is not in the Constitution pnewton.

Criminals are held without bail frequently.
do you think you should be held for years awaiting trial
This of course is the fallacy of equivocation.

The premise was changed to being held for years without a trial (which of course nobody here suggested).

These guys have had speedy trials, convicted, put in prison, and released out into the streets by the thousands in many cases.

I have been documenting much of this right here on CAF.

This guy could have had a speedy trial and put away for a long time instead of released to wreak havoc on society again murdering his accuser.

Many people on the left (left of me anyways), have been attempting to fool readers by downplaying this corona virus jailbreak (with leftist politician and judicial blessing) phenomenon.

They are often the same people who are silent when BIG Government guys like De Blasio or Gavin Newsom or Andrew Cuomo threaten to JAIL you for not wearing a (scientifically unproven) mask or worship Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior in a public worship setting.

Don’t be fooled by this kind of distraction.

These? There is only one “guy”, and he was not convicted, and thus, was not a criminal. There is nothing in the article suggesting he could have had a speedy trial. It is quite common for judges, when they reset trial long enough, to lower bond amounts, or set a bond.

No. If he committed the act, he is a criminal whether he is convicted or not.

Hopefully he will now be convicted and sentenced to many years in prison.

Go back and re-read it and you will get the context.

There doesn’t need to be. That IS the law (the right to a speedy trial).

This is assumed unless there is a report otherwise.
Judges are clearing their dockets with video management in many cases so corona virus is not a good excuse.

Nice try.

The pretext of letting criminals go was never about speedy trials.

It was allegedly about cirona virus.
