*I can’t understand how anybody can look at the smiles and tears of joy on the Iraqis’ faces and say the war was unjustified. *

*Everybody deserves freedom. As an American, I can’t even imagine how intolerable life must be without it. I have heard stories of the tyranny from Iraqis that my mind can’t quite grasp because I can sympathize but I cannot relate. *

After my experiences here, may I never take the freedom I was born into by the grace of God for granted.

A female US soldier in Baghdad 1/30/05

from a soldier stationed in Camp Taji, Iraq: Kathryn, Wanted to pass along a story from Baghdad this morning. At 0900, ~100 people started walking the 15km to a polling site in the city (their’s was closed). The crowd grew to 300, then 500 and eventually more than 1,000. Some made the walk barefoot. As the reports came in our commander said: “Anyone willing to walk 10 miles to cast a ballot deserves to be protected.” Then he ordered security for them.

Lets just hope that this new found freedom will not be “Overwhelming” for the people of Iraq. After more than 50 years of not knowing freedom, how will they react?

I fear it will be like taking a person from the 19th century and bringing him to the present and expecting him to understand the hows and whys and knowing what is expected of him.

Pray that freedom is real for them and they are led slowly to a new and better life.

This is only the beginning. Expect the entire Middle East to react to this. It will take time, but freedom is on the march!

Of course as I scan through the channels CNN (Cable NEGATIVE news) can’t bring themselves to say this is a great thing. They constantly repeat all that can go wrong. A little enthusiasm for freedom please, that’s why their ratings are in the toilet.

Freedom should be the most important message today on any show. Some people walked 13 miles to vote. Tim Russert had John Kerry on still prclaiming that he would do it different and better. Why would Russert do this to himself?

I saw Mr. 'Doom & Gloom" Kerry. He feels no optimism because this isn’t about freedom, it’s about how it affects his parties “power”. I’m so glad he’ll soon be nothing more than an afterthought.

THe utter arrogance of Kerry, Kennedy and the whole liberal cut and run group disgusts me. How many times do they have to be proven wrong before the MSM quits giving them a mike? Kennedy particularly has totally lost his marbles. Here is a man who had every advantage in the world and to paraphrase the saying to those who have much, much is expected. He seems to have no interest in anything beyond his backyard. There HAS to be someone in Massachusetts to run against these two clowns.

I’m going to really enjoy watching the left try to spin this one.

The war was unjustified…

Since when does seeing tears of happiness now make doing an evil to bring about a good part of Catholic doctrine?

I’m glad they could vote and hope its all legit for their sake and safety…but I have NO problem still saying this war was unjust…I believe this Country was manipulated into it…so despite tears of joy…I say its STILL UNJUST…cant commit an evil to bring about a good.

I think your wrong, but you are entitled to your opionion. But try, just try, to be happy for the brave Iraqi people.

A message from Iraq:

Greetings Friends,

I bow in respect and awe to the men and women of our people who, armed only with faith and hope are going to the polls under the very real threats of being blown to pieces. These are the real braves; not the miserable creatures of hate who are attacking one of the noblest things that has ever happened to us. Have you ever seen anything like this? Iraq will be O.K. with so many brave people, it will certainly O.K.; I can say no more just now; I am just filled with pride and moved beyond words. People are turning up not only under the present threat to polling stations but also under future threats to themselves and their families; yet they are coming, and keep coming. Behold the Iraqi people; now you know their true metal. We shall never forget the meanness of these bas…s. After this is over there will be no let up, they must be wiped out. It is our duty and the duty of every decent human to make sure this vermin is no more and that no more innocent decent people are victimized.

My condolences to the Great American people for the tragic recent losses of soldiers. The blood of Iraqis and Americans is being shed on the soil of Mesopotamia; a baptism with blood. A baptism of a lasting friendship and alliance, for many years to come, through thick and thin, we shall never forget the brave soldiers fallen while defending our freedom and future.

This is a very hurried message, while we are witnessing something quite extraordinary. I myself have voted and so did members of my family. Thank God for giving us the chance.

Salaam for now

You are wrong. It was the right war, right time, and we will be safer because of it. Not to mention, the Iraqi people will now be able to live in freedom. It will spread throughout the Middle East, and the force of democracy will prevail. I am sorry you don’t see that, but it is true.

This shows his true colors. Arctic blue comes to mind. Cold as ice.

You can hang on to that if you want. I say we did good with some bad side effects. All war as bad side effects. However, sometimes it is necessary. Big difference.

I openly admit that I was against the invasion of Iraq. I did not go into the streets to protest, instead I prayed about the situation. I prayed to God to stop the invasion. We offered up our daily Mass that the right decisions will be made, and it was as though when the invasion began that God had not listened to my prayers. **I was wrong in believing that God did not listen to our prayers.

**I realised that I was wrong when I saw the reaction of the people of Iraq. They were not angry to see the invaders. They were pleased to see the troops arrive. They wanted to be delivered from their true enemy. I was wrong because I did not know about the extent of the tortures that this people had undergone. Then I found out and I had to admit that they had good reason to welcome the invaders. I realised that I was wrong when I saw the men tear down and beat on the statue of Saddam Hussein in the square in Baghdad. There was a lot of significance in that action.

The last year has been so hard because so many more have died than was necessary in the first place. Saddam has been captured but Osama bin Laden has not been captured and it is one of his people who is heading the insurgency with the help of the Baath Party. Most of the insurgents are foreigners. They are not Iraqis and they have their own agenda.

We must continue to pray for the people of Iraq. They now have freedom, a freedom that has been denied since the day Saddam Hussein shot his way into the government rooms and killed the rightfully elected representatives of the people. Since that day they had been enslaved by a man who wanted one thing alone - power.
