According to some, membership is down. Why? I think there are two issues. First, people are busier and have less time. Men take a more active role in the lives of their children, and as such are suttling them from one activity to another. second, it does not provide the same benifits that it did years ago. At one time, you had to be one to be elected into office. Now? Not so much. You can make a lot of money and gain a lot of power without knowing where a lodge is.

Is it a religion? Check this. Could this same method of veiwing be part of the reasons Catholics cannot join?

I imagine that just as the Knights of Columbus they deal with the fact that people do not join organizations as they once did. Certainly many volunteer organizations have suffered with fewer members as people become somewhat less community oriented.

The Masonic Order has a long history and tradition of advocating ethical behavior, honor, integrity, and other noble values. Its members have been among the greatest people from all walks of life from ordinary citizens to Presidents and Kings, literary figures and so on. A perusal of the internet seems to indicate that the Masons are experiencing an upswing in younger members so the trend may be changing as it may well in the Knights of Columbus. Maybe we as a society are beginning again to look outside of ourselves to our communities again. There is hope as the JP II generation comes into its own.
