French Catholic priests forced to wear QR codes for sex offender status

How in the world would that work?
Do you just take your device, go up to the priest, and say “hey, let me check out your sex offender status”?
This reeks of being a publicity stunt by the French government. I would have thought that something like this would be not in keeping with their dignity — civil service is considered a prestige occupation in France. I could live with laïcité as long as the Church weren’t actively persecuted and were left alone to fulfill her mission, but this takes things to another level entirely.
And not all sex offenders get caught, or don’t get caught for quite some time.

They need something more like the No Fly Lists or sex offender registers to manage these people.
