O great St. Peregrine, you have been called “The Mighty,” “The Wonder-Worker,” because of the numerous miracles which you have obtained from God for those who have had recourse to you.

For so many years you bore in your own flesh this cancerous disease that destroys the very fibre of our being, and who had recourse to the source of all grace when the power of man could do no more. You were favoured with the vision of Jesus coming down from His Cross to heal your affliction. Ask of God and Our Lady, the cure of the sick whom we entrust to you.

(Friar David)

Aided in this way by your powerful intercession, we shall sing to God, now and for all eternity, a song of gratitude for His great goodness and mercy.

Amen x5

Does anyone here know how Friar David is doing?

I will offer the Chaplets I pray today for him.

I just got off the telephone with Dave. He sounded good, a little weak of course, which is normal for a man who is recovering from surgery. He said that he is recovering nicely and he feels improvement. The friars and his relatives are taking good care of him, so not to worry. He is in a nursing facility, which is a rehab center. I’m not sure how long he will be there. He asks that you continue to pray for him and he asked me if I would be his “go-between” CAF and himself. I promised that I would try.

I also had a chance to speak with one of the Carmelite Friars at the priory who verified for me that Dave is doing better. Brother T. had seen him a few hours before my call.

Dave and I had a very emotional talk of faith, hope and love. We also spoke about our friendship and God’s plan for our lives. It was very moving for both of us, to the point of tears. Both of us are facing our mortality. However, there was a sense of peace and joy that I cannot adequately put into writing. The tears were not of sadness because of our respective health conditions, but tears of joy. Despite the crosses and despite our littleness, God has blessed us with each other’s friendship, brotherly love, and has called us to live at the foot of the cross. He has also blessed us with our brothers in community, which mean more to us than anything in this world.

This may sound strange to some people, because I’m know that I’m botching this up. I’m not saying it well. It’s hard to put feelings into words when one is speaking about a friend, a fellow religious and God’s mercy.

I will tell you this. No matter what people may say about the Church and her warts, about priests and religious, there are many signs of hope inside the Church. The affection between this old Franciscan Brother of Life and one younger Carmelite Friar, for several years and across the miles, is nothing else but a sign of God’s abiding love in his Church and in the religious life.

I have never been so happy to be a religious as I am tonight. All I did was listen to my brother, say a few silly things that he probably knows already, but it made him very happy. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that we have loved those whom Christ loves.

I apologize for rambling. I normally write better, but Dave’s my friend and religious brother.

God bless you Brother. I will be keeping you both in my prayers.

Thanks so much for your post, Brother Jay. Friar David – and you – will remain in my prayers.

Thank you, Brother Jay, and blessed be God for the both of you who are in my prayers each day!

Brother Jay, thank you for the update. :hug3:

I will continue to pray for both of you.

I’ve been trying to reach him for days. But our schedules conflict. The friars at their priory do their praying in the early afternoon into the early evening. We do our praying from the early evening until about 8:30 or 8:45. After that, we don’t speak until 9:00 AM. I couldn’t call him in the late evening, because of our Grand Silence and I couldn’t call him early in the afternoon, because of their Vespers and colloquy.

Today, I got lucky. I called the priory and Brother T. answered the phone. I guess they had just finished praying. He told me how he saw Brother David earlier today and what he thought. He suggested that I call Brother, before he fell asleep. I was able to sneak in a call just under the wire. I got off the phone 7 minutes before chapel time. Just enough time to post for you guys.

That’s what happens when you have 100+ liturgical calendars and a surplus number of breviary versions. LOL

Shhhh . . . don’t tell anyone that it’s tradition. I don’t want people to think that Brother and I are too traditional. We have a reputation to uphold here. 😃

I received a beautiful message from Brother. He is going home to the priory with his beloved friars. Things are looking better after the surgery. He is not yet ready to go out and jog, but he is making progress. I’m very excited for him. I’m praying very hard that he will get stronger and be up and about soon.

He asked me to share with you how much he appreciates how much you are praying for him.

I was hoping to go to Virginia this week and sneak over to Washington to visit. Unfortunately the Virginia folks are coming to me. That trip is canceled for now. Maybe, as soon as Brother is able to do so, we can skype and I can get more information to you.

I will be calling him soon. If there is anything confidential that you don’t want to post, but want to relay to him, feel free to send it to me via PM. I will copy and paste into an email or text it to him.

Keep our brother in your prayers.
