Here is Cardinal Pell’s letter on Lenten Penance.

sydney.catholic.org.au/Archbishop/Addresses/2005221_737.shtml

It does not specifically say that one must abstain from meat on Lenten fridays, but I’m pretty sure that one still does. Don’t know the actual source of the information though. Anyone care to provide?
Looks like there may be a bit missing - it says ‘Rules for Lent follow in (a) (b) and (c)’ but the (a) (b) and (c) refer to ALL Fridays of the year, not to Lent in particular. 🤷

And certainly I’ve never either heard, seen or been taught that one no longer has to abstain on Lenten Fridays as one did 15 years ago when I was still in school, but then it specifically mentions only Ash Wednesday and Good Friday 🤷

Perhaps a call to Pelly boy’s office might be in order 😃

Then again maybe not, it’s good for the health to abstain at least one day a week anyway, and may as well make it a Friday.

My husband asked me what I had found out, so I guess it was niggling his conscience. He felt quite vindicated when I told him he was right.

I just wish it were promulgated more clearly so we know what is going on.

I got so many different answers for different places, no wonder the faithful are confused about it. Why put it as a fine print note at the bottom of the Archbishop’s address? Why not make it a bullet point with the others about Ash Wednesday and Good Friday?

Does it really matter, it is a law of man not a law of God, and can be changed. We can eat meat or anything else on Friday in Canada.

all this was not why I stopped eating meat but reading even part of this makes me glad I did… 😉
