Other saints are honored on the day of their death, but John the Baptist is honored today for his birth. The rosary similarly remembers him when he lept for joy in the womb, as Mary came visiting his mother, Elizabeth. The Bible tells of his both for good reason; there is a great deal that is special about his birth, as this aricle says.
