Friday penance

thanks everyone it seems there’s some disagreement about this… well I personally do intend to fast and/or do penance on Fridays… what I meant about not being able to ‘escape’ from eating meat, is - let’s say you come home and there’s a stake on the table that your family member or spouse has spent an hour cooking. It wouldn’t be really loving to just say no to it. The best way is probably to let them know in advance that Fridays are days when you fast.

the reason I mentioned going to restaurants, is because…well it’s not really penitential is it? it’s something that’s better to do on a Saturday or Sunday…

I totally agree with you. Coming home to a meal like that, it would be very rude not to eat it. As far as eating in restaurants, if it’s a special occasion it would be the same situation as coming home to a meal prepared by someone else. I don’t think it’s wrong in that situation.
