Nothing hostile at all…stop playing victim.Honest answer, Texan, thanks. Now you know my answer to Cumorah being excavated. I’m not sure what’s behind your hostility or uncharitable accusations, but I was being serious.
That is the problem. He knows the book is false. He knows there is nothing under Cumorah. For years, every prophet and apostle claimed the cumorah in NY was THE Cumorah As soon as they bought the land and determined there was no evidence of the battles, they started claiming that they do not know where the real one is.Tex,
I listened a bit to “Apostle” Monson in the April General Conference. Link is here.
It’s interesting that he quotes Christ saying (of missionaries)
“Go ye and therefore and teach all nations”
The Catholic Church established by Christ has been teaching all nations for 2000 years.
He then says to the LDS faithful,
“Search the scriptures with diligence”
By his admission, this includes the BoM.
Would diligence not include digging up Hill Cumorah?
We can reason that the BoM is not scripture as there never was a battle on the Hill Cumorah. If it was true, Monson would be advocating with all authority and diligence to dig it up and show the world. He does not because he knows that there is nothing there and in doing so, he is presents falsely to the Mormon faithful that the BoM is true.
Yes or No?
Disbelief. I thought people were raised into that insanity, it still boggles my mind that people actually convert to the false (and honestly laughable) drivel of an obvious 19th century charlatan, after searching for it.Personally, I know this is something he needs right now and he has really changed. So I’m happy he has finally found joy and peace. And that’s something everyone he has told sees, so while we don’t agree with Mormonism, we are happy for him.
I was just wondering, because there have been a few threads that heavily criticize the LDS church, so I was wondering how people here would react to someone close to them converting.
It’s been reported that 75% of Mormons who join the Church leave within the first year after the teachings move from “milk to meat”. The LDS Church hides some of the bizzare beliefs such as one becoming a God until after a member has been added.I am not sure if my reply will be noticed in this flood of responses but…
As far as your friend’s depression goes, it is very possible he was undergoing some kind of serious spiritual trials and/or attacks on his faith. It is not uncommon for these to miraculously disappear (at least that particular attack) when embracing something that would lead you astray. I have discovered many die-hard converts to New Age and the Occult due to this phenomenon.
People need to understand what it is they are embracing and that the evil-one will try anything possible to lead people astray. The fallen angels tend to leave people alone once they have been led astray but not always.
Be there for your friend and understand he is likely up against something he cannot even conceive of and be patient. There are enough holes in Mormonism (something I would argue resembles more of the occult) that if you do your research they will be reveled in time to your friend if he choses to open his eyes. I would recommend other Catholics who are supportive of this decision to be more cautious. It sounds like they don’t know their friend is joining essentially a cult. We have gotten far too relativistic about faith in our generation and there are lies out there that are not harmless.
I tried watching. I could literally feel my brain synapses shut down. I did, though, get a very good nap out of it.I see Neuro has refused to honor his part of the deal.

I made the mistake of helping a family member at their home on Saturday morning. Should have scheduled better, but, there I was, Mormon conference turned up loud. The sing song intonation of the speakers still gives me the creeps. I got the heck out as soon as I could.I tried watching. I could literally feel my brain synapses shut down. What do you think about the statement the LDS has increased by millions? Read in today’s paper… Due to the fact they lowered the age for their kids to go tramping all over the world:shrug:
Maybe they count the dead the baptize? :whacky: They can go back 95 years or so.What do you think about the statement the LDS has increased by millions? Read in today’s paper… Due to the fact they lowered the age for their kids to go tramping all over the world:shrug:

I defer to the Catholic ex-Mormons and their expertise but I think they’ll say that the LDS Church never takes someone off their roll-count. it was like “you would not let us kidnap your kids, so we are going to ex you”

I’m so excited the LDS church membership has hit 15 million! Such a great work! The Gospel is truly spreading throughout the world! I don’t think they remove resigned or excommunicated people from the number count. Our membership record just has a special code in the database so our information does not go to the local ward. They use us to pad their numbers. They also keep people they lose track of on the list until they are 110 years old. More number padding.
Interestingly, the 15 million has nothing to do with the increase in missionary numbers, as it was bound to reach 15 million around this time of the year, at least based on the numbers from previous years:I’m so excited the LDS church membership has hit 15 million! I have to wonder if they factored in the over reporting of the 1 million in Brazil.Interestingly, the 15 million has nothing to do with the increase in missionary numbers, as it was bound to reach 15 million around this time of the year, at least based on the numbers from previous years:

Well I assume that they remove the names of those that request it to be done. There are plenty of inactive members that are probably also included in the 15 million (I know that in my former ward, there were more inactive elders than active). There are also people like myself that simply leave and don’t request anything. There are most likely only around 4-5 million active LDS worldwide.
Some LDS will naturally view the 15 million number as a demonstration of the church being true. Unfortunately, there are a number of other churches with higher growth rates and large numbers, started after or around the same time that the LDS Church was founded.![]()
