How are you supposed to re-act when your in a group of friends and one of them cracks a joke concerning the sexual abuse cases? I just said with a frown in my face “very funny…”
Your response was very appropriate. How are you supposed to re-act when your in a group of friends and one of them cracks a joke concerning the sexual abuse cases? I just said with a frown in my face “very funny…”
I will my dear friend. But just something to take into consideration? Maybe joke telling is not your gift?? Im sitting next to a guy like this right now…his delivery stinks. Ive told him many times not to quit his day job.I still feel very bad. I was the one to start joking about pedophiles. I was saying things like ‘how ridiculous would the reaction of the interviewee be if a released pedophile tried to get a job at a child care centre’. He just took it way too far by trying to crack one about priests. Crude humour, I know.
I’ve had a terrible sense of humour since I was quite young. Ive been disgusted at it since I came to the Church last year. I’m hoping my sense of humour will change in time for confirmation.
Please pray for me.
If what your are talking about by a terrible sense of humor, means dirty jokes, then yes, I can see your concern. there are alot of clean ones, that involve priest though. So its not a matter of your delivery, but you just think you have bad taste?Haha, sure, a joke thread would be great!
Thanks mate,
PT
I notice you’re Australian, like me. So far I haven’t heard any paedophile jokes, but I don’t go looking for them either. How are you supposed to re-act when your in a group of friends and one of them cracks a joke concerning the sexual abuse cases? I just said with a frown in my face “very funny…”
Yes, He will get life. without parole. That is the penalty in Michigan. Im from there too. I only wish they had the death penalty for crimes like this.In my home town, a 26-year-old man has been convicted of first-degree sexual assault on a 4 year-old girl. Potential is, life in prison.
There’s a serious side to this, too. (maybe that’s the only side to this subject) This is news hot off the press.

I remember a college professor who went ballistic in a grad seminar when someone made a vicious joke about lawyers. His point was (and he later made the same point when someone made an ignorant remark about Catholics in politics) that any such speech is intellectual weakness and dishonesty, and the confusion between wit at someone else’s expense and valid analysis and criticism. That kind of joking is as he called it, the last refuge of the pseudo intellectual and the sign of a second class mind. Somebody who considers pedophilia a joking matter should IMO be in therapy. How are you supposed to re-act when your in a group of friends and one of them cracks a joke concerning the sexual abuse cases?
