A good friend of mine-who is not Catholic but her husband and daughter are-went to see John Edwards. Her Catholic husband even bought the tickets for her birthday!
I have her daughter in Confirmation prep 8th grade CCD and this topic will come up several times in both ten commandment and gifts of the Spirit lessons. I don’t want to upset my friend, but her daughter may come home and report that I told her it was a sin.
How can I inform her on the Church teaching regarding trying to contact the dead? She has already told me that it shouldn’t be a problem, after all John Edwards is Catholic. My somewhat joking response was “Well, he won’t be the first Catholic in hell.”
I am also reading a suggested book titled “The Challenging Counterfeit” It is not a Catholic work, but tells a chilling story of a Spiritualist medium. He considered himself to be a good Christian for years until he realized the control the demonic had on these spirit guides.
Any other suggested resources? PJR
