Hi all,

This is a question about what to do with friends who don’t treat you right…

To spare some dirty details (and not slander someone), a friend who I had a falling out with is now without friends. Her life has been miserable for her thus far and I want to reach out to her for support…but I know she dislikes me and that going back into a friendship might not end well for me…but I really do care about her but I’m not sure being friends with her will work out?

Has anyone ever had this problem before? Can I get some advice on what the Catholic thing to do would be? Any scripture on this…?

Thanks so much 😊

ps her name is Crystal, please pray for her mental peace and comfort…

Definitely reach out to Crystal, as you mentioned you want to do. Let her know that as her friend, you are there for her, as her friend. Let her know you care about her and will listen to her and help her in any way you can.

That’s what friendship is all about. People find out who their truest friends are when they are in the dark/low times in their lives.

Pray.

I don’t know that I’d reach out to her (because she may think you’re being fake and honestly, you don’t really want to be friends with her), but if you know her parents, siblings, teachers, RA, or some other authority figure that takes an interest in her, you might mention the situation and ask them to check in with her without mentioning you.

Pray, pray and pray some more…
Some relationships are indeed too toxic to return to.
I have an ex friend who now has too few friends. Her husband would say that she consistently alienates friends and even prospects. All I know is that she did a job on me and I’d hestiate to reach out to her again. That is a general statement, not a firm no.
But I do not hesitate to pray for her.

Since your friendship was ended with her, how did you learn that her life is now miserable and she is without friends? You can always call her, do lunch to try and reconnect. If not then I would just pray for her and leave it at that.

I tend to agree with this.

The problem is, there isn’t a way to say, “I care for your well-being and want to make sure you’re OK but don’t want to be your friend,” without sounding like a jerk, even though the sentiment is admirable.

It sounds to me that deep down, you know this person is emotionally abusive towards you. Which makes me think this is about YOUR co-dependant issue wanting to rescue people that are abusive.

I would pray for her well, being and also try to figure out if you do have some co-dependant issues you need to work on
