Friendship with God

Thank you for all the responses, everyone!!!
One thing I noticed is that most of you told me how you worship God but not necessarily how you are friends with Him. Just picture a close friend on earth and how you bonded with them and became friends. How did you become friends with God? Maybe you’re not friends with God and just respect Him like a parent? I’m interested in knowing more of your thoughts on this one.

Well To be friends with God or anyone else, You must know about Him, Know Him, And spend time with Him.

To Know about Him I study scriptures, Have conversations about Him with others and listen to sermons.

To spend time with Him I pray (talk to Him) and sing praises and worship to him.

Friendship is two ways though so I must also allow God to be real in my life, I allow Him to make decisions for me (as a parent would), I also must take time to be quiet and listen to what He has to tell me. It’s not just about ME talking to Him but also about me listening to him.

God is our friend but He is also much much more.

Great topic, Mrs. Abbott!

As a friend:

• I offer my suffering for the conversion of sinners - this is a very Catholic thing, but I am not sure if any other Christians believe this offering.
• I am afraid to hurt Him by asking Him to help me stay away from sins and temptation.
• when I committed sin, I go to Confession. He is there to forgive me, and I trust in His Mercy.
• I ask Him to recogize who His Friends are - I wanted to see Him in others.
• etc, …
• ultimately, I want to be His roommate in Heaven. He must be the best roommate I will ever have.

I like that explanation, water. It sounds like you have a great friendship with God!
For me, it’s hard to think of God as a friend because I can’t see Him physically or “hang out” with Him physically in the sense I can with my other friends. But, I know that I can talk to Him anytime and “hang out” too. The trick is to overcome the limitations set forth by our human nature.
