It depends. Priests are human too and are in need of friendships with the laity. If they were friends only with other priests then I would think that would severely limit how they would relate to their parishioners.

Over the years I have had good friendships with priests. They like to relax and talk about things other than Church just like the rest of us. Many appreciate the friendship of others, especially of couples since that helps them to understand the problems and concerns that families face. People who knew a man before he was ordained remain good friends and they go out to games, or hang out, or go on vacation.

One of my co-workers and his wife grew up in the same neighborhood as Cardinal Dolan. The then Deacon Dolan witnessed their wedding, and Father Dolan baptized their kids. They are still good friends, they vacation together and maintain regular contact.

At a retreat I went to last year the Priest pointed out that Jesus had his disciples accompany him when he went to pray in the Garden because as a human he wanted companionship, he wanted his friends to be with him.

I think the relationship you have with a Priest is very interesting. You tell the Priest things you would not tell most people. Thank God for that friendship!

I never had a friendship with a priest, but it could be nice, why not?

Priests can have some good friends I think.

What kinda friendship does one have with a Priest?
Sounds like a great idea. Both the laity and the priest can benefit from such a relationship. Let us pray that all of us can offer our friendship to the priests in our parish. They need companionship just like we do.
