From which religious order/society would you like your next pastor to come from?

If your parish was going to receive two new religious priests as your pastor and parochial vicar, which religious order or society would you prefer they come from?

Well, since I’m a Lay Carmelite I’d have to say Carmelite.
 
The priests at my parishes have only ever been Diocesan. Although I went to Benedictine College, where the priests who celebrated Mass were, unsurprisingly, Benedictine.

I my next pastor wasn’t going to be diocesan, I would choose Benedictine, as they have had a lot of influence in my life and their lifestyle of Ora et Labora, prayer and work, that is so beautiful.
 
Honestly, I’m more concerned about their character than their charism. I have had the pleasure to attend Vincentian, Jesuit and Franciscan parishes as well as diocesan ones. I have encountered Barnibite, Benedictine and many others.

I have known generous and tightwad Vincentians, I have known theologically corrupt and theologically astounding Jesuits, I have know merciful and greedy Franciscans. I have known distracted and fervent diocesan priests.

My favorite priests come from all of these orders. I did leave a parish because of a Franciscan who became much too greedy and am now at a Diocean parish with a priest who is wholly and increadibly focused on God. All I want is a faithful priest. That’s it.
 
I would be grateful for any Priest the good Lord would send us. However; I am partial to Franciscans.
 
We don’t have a choice; there’s a Benedictine monastery in town, and our pastors come from there. Which has not been a problem in my 14-year history with the parish 😃

Carmelite or Benedictine. Really any priest who is faithful and has a strong desire to genuinely correct and help others in their faith.
 
I sincerely don’t understand the premise of the question. The vast majority of parishes are run by diocesan priests. Those parishes that are run or staffed by religious orders - as was the one I grew up in - typically remain in the charge of that order, or if for some reason the order must withdraw, the parish reverts to diocesan staffing. Parishes aren’t typically swapped among religious orders like musical chairs. Even less so do parishioners get to choose the source of the staffing.

I sincerely don’t understand why you felt the need to respond in that case. My question was simple, harmless and hypothetical. Plenty of others had no trouble sharing their preferences. If you couldn’t respond positively, why didn’t you simply skip over it?

Since our parish is Dominican-staffed, I would have to go with one of our dear OP friars as a matter of course.😉

 
I’m happy and grateful to have our diocesan priests, but there are two parishes in the archdiocese, each about twenty miles from where I live. One is staffed by the Norbertines, and the other is staffed by the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. I’m always impressed with them whenever I visit those parishes.
 
I don’t know that it would matter for me, but I’d like to have a FSSP parish in the vicinity, just for the change of pace.

The FSSP are fantastic! I often say they’re the SAS of the Catholic Church (in America they’d be the Navy Seals of the Catholic Church).
 
Give me a Jesuit! That’ll keep us on our toes for sure. Agree or disagree with them, they certainly can cause us to dig deeper into our faith.
 
My parishes growing up were all Jesuit and I graduated from Jesuit University the second time with Theology degree, but I also love the Franciscans. They are so family oriented.
But, in this Archdiocese, there are mostly Diocesan priests, which run the gamut. My current pastor and boss is fantastic.

I wish people would not get so upset when people post their honest opinions. Start a thread, accept what people say at face value! As one of our old teachers used to say "you get what you get and you don’t’ pitch a fit. 😁🍬

Not sure I’d really care. While I love the charism of Dominicans and Benedictines, I’ve found as much diversity with regard to orthodoxy and theological outlook in religious priests as in diocesan priests. I’ve met some diocesan priests that I’d swear were Dominicans and I’ve meet Dominicans that I would have thought were formed in Jesuit or Franciscan houses. 🤷‍♂️

It’s not like all members of an order are cut from the same cloth… even if their habits are. 😃
