Frustrated with being a college student

Are there any intramural sports at your school? That is a great way to meet people and have fun.

School’s out for summer, and so far, I’ve been having a lousy time outside of school. I’m so frustrated with being a college student who has decided, upon several disastrous outings, that I hate the college drinking scene, which apparently takes out 95% of things I can do with people my age. Speaking of which, I can count on one hand how many friends I have, which doesn’t give me a whole lot of people to hang out with in my spare time. I’m so frustrated with how so many people my age just want to party and get drunk and have sex and not care about how wrong all of those things are. Nobody cares about doing the right thing and it depresses me so much. I’ve tried planning some stuff to do this summer, like volunteer at my parish’s vacation bible school next week, which I’m looking forward to, and there are some other things I’ve thought about getting into like horseback riding again or going out tubing, stuff like that. But I still can’t help but get down about how much of a loner I am compared to everyone else in college. I feel like such a loser, since I don’t have a ton of friends and I have no boyfriend. I enjoy being in school since it keeps me busy and I’m a good student (not trying to brag) and it makes me feel productive. But summer time and a social life? Not me I guess, and I’m so depressed about it all. Any good prayers or stuff I should read to lift up my spirits?
Is there a Catholic Young Adults group you can join, or other Catholic young adults who are also not into the bar scene, and want to do other things?

Maybe the bunch of you could start a book club focusing on good Catholic literature, or an arts club where you visit art galleries and go to classical concerts together, or even a prayer group or a Bible study of some kind that’s oriented around topics of interest to you and others your age. You would really only need about five or six people to get something going.

There is a Catholic Young Adult group that meets up once a week near the university I plan on attending in the fall, but it’s becoming too far of a drive for me and I’m just not feeling it, so I don’t think I’ll be going back at this point unfortunately.

I think at this point, I’m just going to continue to stay involved with my own parish near my home and volunteer for different stuff going on there. I already am super involved during the school year as a youth group leader for middle schoolers that have youth group night once a week, which I love with all my heart, and they’ll have a few activities for the summer (weekly youth group doesn’t happen during the summer, only during the school semester). So I’ll try to get involved with those outings. Next week I’ll be volunteering as a teacher for vacation bible camp so I’m looking forward to that. 🙂
