Frustrated with lack of adult formation available at my parish

I don’t think you can divorce discipleship and service from adult formation, one without the other is empty.
This makes me think of Regnum Christi in which members must have an apostolic work in addition to faith formation.

Oh, and a little rant on the same subject,
I find it utterly embarrasing on the lack of participation in Church. For a settlement campaign for the families of molested victims, thousands of families in my own parish (one of the largest) couldn’t come up with $600,000 in months but a Baptist church could come up with 4 mil in exponentially less time. Maybe we should do like the Mormons, door to door. It’s so sad how lazy and unwilling some Catholics are.
Honestly, most LDS and Baptits believe. Most US Catholics don’t. If they did at 25% of the population this would be a different country.

The church is in collpase in the US - what you report simply affirms that.

I really do not think the Baptists or LDS would contribute to a fundraiser to pay off victims of ministers who molested children either.

Teachers who are excited about their topic are helpful. And, I think, when people say they want doctrine, they are not referring to rote lessons they could read for themselves in the CCC. I think what they really want is why we believe more than what we believe.

For instance, I am a convert who was converted in part by a study of the early church fathers. A lot of people convert through that study. So, I thought maybe others would be interested in that rich heritage. I started a patristics class yesterday and was amazed at the reaction - I was afraid people would think it boring and dry - instead, they were talking about inviting friends and advertising the study in the newspaper! It is a lot of work for a teacher but there is nothing like the payoff of teaching a class that is motivated and excited about learning. And, a topic such as this has plenty of resources online so there is no need to spend any money - other than the paper and ink to print the lesson outlines for class.

There is a world of difference between believing what the church teaches (a good thing) and owning what the church teaches (a better thing). A good teacher should seek to give their students ownership. And we can only do that if we own it ourselves.
