Frustrated with Liturgical Abuses? That which does not kill us makes us stronger?

legeorge,

I am so glad you raised this topic! As somebody who has never known the pre-Vatican II Church, I have often wondered about this myself. The amount of time that has passed thus far is miniscule compared to the history (and future) of the Church.

I like the pendulum analogy that was used…I am just waiting for it to swing back toward the center!

I like to call the coming changes course corrections back to the truth. The drift that has taken place has to stop. Some people will remark - Oh more changes - but I have been saying we are going to get back to where we should be.

Fr. Fessio was on CA Live yesterday and mentioned that he met with the Holy Father (along with several of his former students) and managed to convey to him in a private moment that there are many people within the Church who would support a move toward celebration of the Mass as the Council intended (and as Father notes in his article above). Fr. Fessio reports the Pope smiled and nodded.

Reform the reform! :clapping:

I would love to see this. I imagine that Mass would be a lot like the ones you see on EWTN, right? I would love for that to be the case in our local parishes. Although, I wonder if we have gone so far off the mark, and people’s attitudes have altered so drastically, that it will be extremely difficult to implement?

Throughout history the Church has faced trials and tribulations beyond measure. Schism, heresy, false doctrines, anti popes, constant infighting pride beyond belief, denial of God, of the Holy Trinity, blasphemies etc etc etc. etc. All because of free will. Gods greatest gift to us and conversely the most deadly thing imaginable.
Yes, I understand that. I also agree with this statement:
I believe that the the Church will prevail, nothing can destroy it.
I guess this is my problem:
Not even us, in our arrogance and ignorance and our belief that we know better, and that we can understand the mind and ways of God.
Because I really want to understand what God is doing and what my role is in that. I know that there is something here that we are supposed to be learning from all this. Don’t you think? Of course it will all be clear in hindsight hundreds of years from now, but what about now? Is there no way to understand what God is doing while it is happening?
