Language may be an issue - I think the FSSP is mostly French, the ICKSP mostly Italian (?). (I may be wrong).

FSSP have 2 seminaries: one in the US, and the other in Germany. So if the OP doesn’t speak German he would go to the USA. This should be double checked, of course, but I’m almost certain this is the case.

It was so nice to read your post about my former parish. 😃 I’m glad you had such a positive experience. I miss it very much and hope to be back soon.

Ah, you so are from Edinburgh originally, or did you study there?

Yes - It was a lovely experience to attend such a beautiful mass. Sadly, that Ravelston Parish is not hugely convenient for me to attend regularly, but heres hoping the FSSP might find their way to Glasgow sometime too!

Cheers

I lived there for about 10 years, and attended the FSSP parish for 3. (I’m not British). It was great. 😃

I thought there was EF mass in Glasgow. I wonder if the Edinburgh priest would be available to do something about it.

I’ve been researching ICRSS for my vocation and they have one seminary–located in Italy, so you would usually be correct in your assumption of an “Italian connection.” In fact, the founder is a Frenchman, and all ICRSS seminarians are required to learn French, even though they discern at the ICRSS seminary in Italy. However, seminarians are not required to know French or Italian before they enter the seminary. French is taught in the first few years and I presume you pick up Italian from living in Italy.

Honestly my impression of the ICRSS is that they have a small, healthy core and want to keep it that way. From my perspective, if I joined one of the two instead of going for the diocesan priesthood, my choice would probably be ICRSS.

Salve omnibus,

Language will not be an issue.

I have been learning French at School since I was 9. I have also taught myself Italian and Latin since I started discerning the Priesthood - spending a month in Rome last year was a great help with that.

I know about the Languages, There are 3 Possible Seminaries to consider here:

FSSP Denton: The American Seminary for the FSSP (English Speakers)
FSSP Wigratzbad: The Germany Seminary for the FSSP (French and German Speakers - I’m not too keen on this Seminary for whatever reason)
ICRSS Tuscany: The Italian Seminary for the ICRSS (French Speaking, but I guess knowledge of Italian is indeed helpful)

I actually know quite a lot about the two societies. I have sadly just never had the fortune of being able to experience them.

I know it’s bad practice to revive an old thread like this, but I simply want to clarify something:

I think I was going through a rough patch in my discernment when I said “I have recently concluded, that maybe the diocesan Priesthood is not my calling”.

I am again interested in Diocesan Priesthood, and I think that could be my calling, but I am still keeping these societies in mind, I have experienced a little of both groups now too.

Thanks for those who contributed to the thread, and your prayers are still as welcome as ever.

God Bless,
Deus, Salus Nostra :gopray2:
