FSSP Question

Hey, I’m new here and this is my first post. So not to sure if this is the right place to put this. Anyways, I was wondering if the FSSP would rather you not have any tattoos or if they don’t care to much if you had any. Is it looked down upon? Would they just send you on your way? Now, I’m not talking about like death and skull tattoos, I’m talking about Sacred Heart and Saint Michael and his prayer in Latin. I don’t have these yet but I would like to have them. Just wondering what the FSSP would think. Thanks.

Tatoos espeacilly noticible ones can be looked down on in many groups. It dosent seem prudent. The FSSP may not like it but that depends who you ask, I wouldent take the risk though espeacilly as tGod made quite clear in the OT he dident like them. I know some priests who would consider it sinful as it could be considered dameging the body.

Thank you. What if they were not noticeable unless you take your shirt off. Mine would be at the bicep. Above the elbow so not to be seen.
 
I have a few religious based tattoos and have contacted the FSSP with this same question they responded…

“The priests would look at them and make a decision then. All things are
considered along, with the applications paperwork, for their final decision.
So one cannot say until all components of an application/applicant are
reviewed.”

Tattoos are not sinful and the Roman Catholic Church has never said that they are in fact the Council of Northumberland in 786 stated that if the tattoos are religious in subject than the wearer is to be commended.

However, knowing that the FSSP is a traditionalist fraternity I would suggest not getting them and save yourself the hassle. Also there are other orders that are just as orthodox in their positions and traditional in their practices that don’t care in the least if you have tattoos, especially if you can cover them up. This just happens to be the order that I am joining (please pray for my acceptance, I’ll know next week :D)

If you don’t have them, I wouldn’t get them. I have heard a number of FSSP priests preach on the sinful nature of tattoos being a form of self-mutilation.
 
I can’t speak for the FSSP; however I will say there is a difference between accepting a seminarian who got tattoos years ago and one who decided to get them right before leaving for the seminary. If I were you I would hold off on the tattoos…maybe offer it up as a sacrifice to God.
 
I think in another forum you said you were 15? Trust me, your view on tattoos, even good ones and unseen ones, will change with age. It would be prudent to not get one, and exercising the virtues (especially prudence) is applauded by the FSSP.
