I don’t know if anyone saw the show, but before Fr. Berg came on, they interviewed Fr. Andrew Apostoli about the canonization process for Fulton Sheen.

When the topic of the crisis of the Church came up, Fr. Apostoli mentioned Bella Dodd and her discussions with Bishop Sheen about the Communist infiltration of the Church. He told the story of Bella Dodd personally recruiting bringing between 800 and 1200 men - who didn’t have the faith - into the Preisthood with the intention of corrupting and bringing down the Church.

He mentioned that Fulton Sheen not only converted Bella Dodd, but even some of the Priest infiltrators.

What I find interesting is that the things that only the Traditonalists were saying a few years ago are now being openly spoken about by others.

This just shows that most people knew that what the Traditionalists were saying was true… they just didn’t have the courage to admit it themselves. Now that John Paul II has gone on to his reward, there seems to be a willingness of many to admit what everyone knew all along… but only the Traditionalists had the courage to say.

I have read that Bella Dodd would speak about this in her lectures. Yet traditionalists that bring it up are ridiculed and called conspiracy nuts.

Catholic Report Interview With Father Andrew Apostoli on Archbishop Sheen
catholicreport.org/?id=255

“The Lord also brought individuals to him who told of experiences which he probably wished he didn’t have to know. For example the one time ardent Communist Bella Dodd was a convert of Archbishop Sheen. She told him that while she was a Communist Joseph Stalin told her and other Communists that the Catholic Church was the greatest enemy of Communism. He wanted to undermine the Church by recruiting men into the priesthood who had no vocations and who would cause havoc by confusion and bad example. Bella Dodd told the Archbishop that she had personally recruited into the priesthood between 800 and 1200 men who had no vocations. Knowledge such as this was not easy for Archbishop Sheen. Yet it caused him to pray even harder.”

Funny, there’s a traditionalist website that I sometimes read at traditio.com. If someone were to ask me about it, I probably would have said something like “I recommend it. Just ignore the paranoid conspiracy theory stuff.” But maybe they’re not that far off!

Just last year news broke of Communist Bishops and priests in Poland.

catholic.org/international/international_story.php?id=24608

WARSAW, Poland (CNS) – One in seven of Poland’s 132 Catholic bishops was registered as a secret police informer under communist rule, but the scope of the issue has not been fully established, said a Polish church commission.

Up to 20 were registered by communist Poland’s security organs as secret collaborators, operational contacts or information sources, and one as an intelligence agent, while several were registered as potential recruits,"

cbsnews.com/stories/2007/01/08/ap/world/mainD8MGQL180.shtml
“Warsaw’s new archbishop abruptly resigned Sunday over revelations that he cooperated with Poland’s communist-era secret police, stunning worshippers by sadly yielding the archbishop’s throne just minutes before he was to be formally installed.”

I just watched it (DVR Recorder). Fr. Andrew Apostoli and the half on Archbishop Fulton Sheen was quite interesting. I gotta say though, Fr. John Berg seems like an amazing priest.
