If you are talking about “worldly fulfillment” it will vary from person to person. If you are talking about Spiritual fulfillment it definitely is required and can only be found in God.

If you are looking for such fulfillment see the book link in my signatures.

From the Baltimore Catechism:
  1. Q. Why did God make you?
    A. God made me to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him for ever in heaven.

Are you saying that fulfillment in human existence is not required?

It’s difficult to say. Fulfillment can mean different things on different levels.
Physical fulfillment might be complete with food, sleep shelter and a “mate”.
Emotional fulfillment, or contentment, can depend on what your goals are and can change with time.
Spiritual fulfillment on the other hand…

So I suppose it depends on what you are meaning by fulfillment.

that’s a subjective term that depends for meaning on who is using it. Mother Teresa said we are not called to be fulfilled but to be faithful.

Christ was a carpenter in a backwoods village. He probably had the reputation of being the illegitimate son of a teenage mother; I suspect He was badly treated by Joseph (I’m well aware that others will disagree, but He was a man of sorrows, and I think it would have started with His home life. Not much is said of Joseph beyond the nativity scenes.); and ended up on a cross, crucified on false charges by an illegal court, and rejected by His own people.

In fact I have a vague memory of one ancient Roman commentator sarcastically stating somewhere that Christ left nothing grandiose - no buildings, no public monuments, no military victories etc.

Was He fulfilled?

In the worldly sense of the word, no. If it was unimportant for Christ, then it is unimportant for Christians. Christ didn’t promise fulfilment, but persecution.

It is the world which chases after fulfilment, and measures people in that light.

The point is

What is fulfillment my friend in Christ, fulfillment of, is fulfillment of. Therefore what is it that is required to be fulfilled?

As Bob Crowley (thank you) has pointed out Jesus fulfilled the Commandments of God to the world (human existence) , in the flesh and blood of human existence. To the Father’s satisfaction, clear back to the first commandment to the world (mankind).
Gen:2
16: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Note, Jesus now sits at the Right Hand of the Father. Since Jesus is the Foundation of the world then He is the Foundation of human existence. Again, in the world was it fulfilled, for if it were not required, then the Lord Jesus would not have done it in the world.

When you talk spiritual and physical one should take care, for it is man that is made to respond to the Presence of God. Hence the Presence of God in the Son of man. Which Jesus fulfilled and is fulfilled in Jesus, alone. For if you notice, that it is by the Power of God is His Commandments fulfilled to the Father’s satisfaction. Of which no man could do.

If one makes a device that requires electricity to do that which it is made for, then what is it made for? Could it be that it is made to respond to the power that flows in it? Doesn’t it need to be connected to the power and doesn’t need to respond to the power that flows in it. In order to do that which it is made for?

Therefore in mankind just as anything else that God has made, requires His Power to do that which He has made it for. For example; The Apostle Paul was fulfilled by the Power of God’s Presence in and with him, according to the Word of God, our Lord Jesus Christ.
That which was fulfilled by the hand of Moses, was fulfilled by the Power of God’s Presence with Moses, not by Moses.

Shouldn’t one walk with the Lord?

Agreed: it is the desire, and expectation of God the Father for mankind (human existence) that Jesus, the Word of God in the Presence of God (the Holy Spirit) fulfilled, in the Son of man. Note the oldest definition of Hope in English is desire, and expectation. So it is the Hope of God, His desire, and expectation that is to be fulfilled. Therefore if you have God’s Hope in you, there is nothing that can prevent it from being fulfilled.

Yes - One should walk always with The Lord.

Jesus summed up the entire thing in Matthews Gospel:
Mt 22:36-40 36
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, " YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' 38 "This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 "The second is like it, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ 40 “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

So what is fulfillment? It is putting these two commandments into action - both interally and externally.

James

No disagreement there, but what seems to prevail today is there are many who believe they can do the second without the first, kind a like a community of walmart greeters. Curiously, I just was reading this.

Jer:9
23: Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me,** that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness**, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Ok I’ll get off my soap box now.
