I was in doubt of whether a particular act which was laughing at a dirty joke was a mortal sin; whether it was a possible sin of scandal. I had the doubt in mind but didn’t really consider the serious aspects in mind - I thought at most it was merely a venial sin, but I still had some doubts. Anyway, my friend was telling the joke and I still laughed either way even though I still had the doubt in mind as I didn’t want to seem rude by not acknowledging him. **But now after considering how it may constitute a sin - I’m doing my best not to laugh or respond to these kind of jokes anymore. **

Does this mean I did not have ‘‘full knowledge’’ prior to the highlighted?

This means you need to discuss scruples with your Priest and perhaps a health care professional

Why does a poll of strangers on the internet determine the worthiness of your soul. You have been given the criteria for mortal sin and told to discuss these things with your priest time and time again.

If you have ready access to a priest, TALK TO HIM! You are self imposing way too many ‘don’ts’ on your faith, and not seeing the beauty of it. You need a priest to set you straight! Not us lay people!

You say you were in doubt. Why is this a question, then? 🤷

Fear of sinning is not equivalent to a judgment of conscience. Something like this sounds like fear of sinning. You got a feeling an act (or semi-voluntary reaction) might be sinful? Fear of sinning.

The matter here is either not sinful at all or very slight - and it would most likely not be scandal, it would be some form immodesty or mild derisiveness, depending on the exact content. The way to drive away this is to think more often on the goodness of human beings as being made in God’s image and likeness, not forcing yourself not to laugh.

If your conscience is truly perplexed then go with the safer opinion (following the established rule or law) unless the other opinion seems at least just as probable.

This should be “unless the other opinion is CERTAINLY MORE probable, even though the safe opinion is probable too, unless the question regards the existence of a law at all, which then only requires roughly equal probability”
