“Land of Confusion” by Genesis.

Although more recent, most songs from Creed. “Faceless Man” and “My Own Prison” are heavily laden with Christian themes. I would normally recommend “In America” because it has a pro-life line, but it does mention “sexuality” (although in a sense of taking a swipe at it), so I guess that might be OK for teens?

“We Didn’t Start the Fire” by Billy Joel (if you don’t mind the reference to birth control, so again this might only be appropriate for teens and up).

The refrain from “Da Da Da” by Trio in an endless loop (it might cause your patience to run thin after a while, though).

And if you want just plain silly, look for anything by Weird Al Yankovic.

Oh, another one: “Centerfield” by John Fogerty.

“Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Tears for Fears.

Well it goes back a little further than the 80s (though that one TV show did use it in the late 80s/early 90s), Oblahdee, Oblahdah, Life Goes On.

my kids were pre-teens in the 80s and loved Weird Al Jankovic.
Personally the best thing I can think of about 80s music is that disco was over.

I remember “Disco Demolition” at the old Comiskey Park in 1979! (I wasn’t there, but it was a MAJOR news event here in Chi-town)

I still have a Coho card from the Coho Commander himself someplace in my box of junk. I was not there, either. Not that he is my favorite person by any stretch these days, but he has stopped drinking and his kids are grown, Steve Dahl.

Gosh, what a trip down Memory Lane. I love it when my teens get into “my” music. I only listen to Classic Rock (not always the best for teens though) but much better than alot of the stuff that is out there now.If you can get them into the Gospel Rock genre that is the best IMO.

I know you mentioned you wanted to make a CD of childhood songs from your past, but have you ever heard Dan Zanes and Friends?

I was introduced to him last year and now his group is occasionally on Disney. We got “Catch that Train” and “House Party” and ALL the songs are fun family songs which are GREAT for dancing. He has a website and you can hear some of the songs there.

I’d recommend Jackson Five - some of their early stuff like ‘ABC’, ‘Rockin’ Robin’ and ‘Blame it on the Boogie’.

And I find just about anything on the Blues Brothers soundtrack is great for getting kids of all ages up dancing.

‘Life Goes On’ is by the Beatles. Some of their more wacky stuff is good too, like ‘Yellow Submarine’ and ‘Octopus’ Garden’.

OK…I am disappointed…I know it is earlier than the 80’s but How about “I’d like to teach the world to sing?” I can’t believe I didn’t see it here!! I must be ancient!!!

You missed it, someone else posted it.

But how about “We are the World”?

“Hands Across America”.

I always liked Paula Abdul’s “Opposite’s Attract”.

If you’re talking 80’s you really can’t NOT include something from Michael Jackson.
