Wondering if there are any FLDS on this forum or any sympathizers of FLDS. With the TV show “Big Love” being popular, this practice has become more well known. Currently watching Secret Lives of Women and this topic is being focused on. Also curious if the LDS church has any program to assist the women who escape from that lifestyle. Anyone???

(edited for additional comments after original post)

Tapestry Against Polygamy and The Hope Organization are two non-profits that assist women and their children who have left the FLDS. Tapestry Against Polygamy seems to have wound down and some of their people left to The Hope Organization. Both of these organizations were started by women who left the FLDS. The mainstream LDS church does not assist anyone who has left or wants to leave the FLDS.

Carolyn Jessop’s biography, “Escape”, might interest you.

I haven’t seen any FLDS on this forum, but there are a few at other forums. The author of “Stolen Innocence” is a convert to Christianity who posts over at CARM. A woman who grew up FLDS posts on the exmormon forums.

Principle Voices is a non-profit that advocates for polygamous lifestyles as believed by Mormon sects. The FLDS themselves have a web presence.

I know this forum has posters from various other religions and was just curious.
Regarding the LDS not supporting those women who flee fundamentalist LDS groups, after I had posted, an interviewee on the tv show said that LDS does have some sort of assistance but the amount that is funded for this is quite nominal, especially in comparison to the funds raised by LDS against prop 8 out in CA.
If LDS does not have a support effort/shelters available that would be quite sad. Am not aware if the polygamy is the only thing that differs from mainstream LDS or if the FLDS has some other differences beyond that, so am under assumption that polygamy is the only difference.

Both have a history of being “persecuted” for their polygamous beliefs and lifestyle. They have left each other alone for decades, and it is one of the main complaints against the AG’s office of UT, that they have not until recently cared to notice the unlawful things going on in Colorado City. Polygamy, tax fraud, welfare fraud, mismanagement of public funds (UEP), etc.
