I believe that there was indeed a near-worldwide cataclysmic flood of some kind, but I don’t believe Noah and his family were the only human survivors, just as I don’t believe there was a single man and woman named Adam and Eve who were the sole progenitors of the human race. I believe that ‘Adam and Eve’ were probably leaders of the superior ‘chosen’ by God, or maybe a symbolic name for those people–the “Adam-Eve”, “AeDomiev”, so to speak. Just as I don’t literally believe that from Adam to Noah, people lived so long (like Methusalah living for nearly a thousand years, for example).
Now, having said all that, it does occur to me that maybe we modern-day humans are the way we are because of the necessary ‘inbreeding’ (pardon the word) that would obviously need to be going on to keep the species going, both from Adam and Eve on, and Noah and his familiy and on, since the gene pool would be minimal if these stories are even remotely true. Maybe the Ancients (as I like to call them) were more advanced, more “evolved”, than we are now, but the genetic damage caused by so much inbreeding (again, pardon the word) made us, their descendants, inferior to them. That would make us the products of “de-evolution”, so to speak, now wouldn’t it? Boy, that would make the science mainstreamers cringe if that turns out to be true! Which I would like to see–those who follow the religion of secular science really bug me.
