Who or what, according to the Bible, is the “pillar and foundation of the truth”?

It is the Church (1 Tim 3:15)
The church. Now, please read the rest of the passage, which tells us the role of the church in relation to God’s word.

Who or what, according to the Bible is “profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works”?

Fair enough. But, you cited these verses to support your claims that contradict what the apostles taught. Then you accused the Catholic Church of inventing “traditions” and things like purgatory and the papacy.

Show us where the apostles taught or anyone in the early Church believed the things you are pushing. You can’t. They all support the Church’s claims. Always have and always will.
I already did. You even know that I did because you then mocked me for posting those verses of scripture.

We suffer anyway. In Purgatory, we join our sufferings with Christ’s suffering on the Cross, and make His sacrifice to be our own, and in this way, we pass from our own life into His life.
And this is Unbiblical. The Bible says that Christ’s sacrifice is the only thing that can save us.
“Chief shepherd” is the Pope.
Again, never says anything about Peter being the pope.
It is because St. Peter’s own word was God’s Law that St. Paul had to rebuke him for breaking it.
And which verse is this?

The Old Testament Scriptures

I’m saying that, while those men are welcome to their opinions, and their opinions are instructive, inasmuch as they align with scripture, it is scripture that is the authority, not their opinions.
The concept behind one church is having one final authority along interpretations of the doctrins. This final authority can be amended should there be a need for it to be so. The problem exists when individuals interpret scripture falsly, and some have been known to twist it around to mean something entirely different then what was intended to be so in the first place. Having that final authority prevents this from happening. With the protestants I used to hang out with online, many of them were at each others throats over some of these differing interpretations, and you had better believe, they had their own traditions just as the Catholic church does, the difference here is the Catholic church stems from the beginning with theirs, the protestant ones do not.

The Old Testament Scriptures
First, it’s good to see that you admit that it’s the word of God and not the Roman Catholic church.

Second, you don’t believe that the New Testament has the same authority?

This final authority can be amended should there be a need for it to be so.
But why would you be so arrogant as to try to amend God’s word?
Having that final authority prevents this from happening.
Actually, wresting authority away from God insures that the your “final authority” will be corrupt and use the scriptures for their own purposes.

So you say. If you really had a case against me, you’d have shown some evidence.
🤷 I posted a nice batch of scripture mentioning tradition. You said that tradition means the Gospels, not oral teachings from the Apostles based on what they learned directly from Jesus. I asked you to prove this interpretation. You were not able to do that. So, since the book is closed on that topic, may I provide you with evidence on another topic? I have evidence to spare. 🙂

The Bible says many things about what saves us…such as “This prefigured baptism, which saves you now.” (1 Peter 3:21)

someotherguy,
Do you consider that what is in Scripture is meant to be read in an absolutely literal manner? Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.

I did not say amend God’s word, I said amend the Churches stance along interpretation of it, should it be needed, I’m sure there was alot more of that going on in the early days, while they hammered it all out and tried to bring unity to it, so not so much today. The church does take official positions on key areas regardless and those are largely due to the times we live in, such as the stance on abortion for example.

God is the final authority, in regards to it all, yet while we remain mere mortals on earth, we submit to the church as a way to show unity and collarboration towards him, Jesus made it clear that there was to be an institution, doing away with it, you are doing away with what he established and what he wanted to be. If we did away with that, there would be no point in having any church at all, it would be meaningless since at that point, we are all a bunch of individuals with no foundation and the bible would turn into a dust collector, for it would fall out of favor due to the fact, man is fickle, the cannons would not be agreed upon and the books would be randomly scattered, not a very effective way for faith of any kind…

Of course not. Because the authority which Christ appointed, The Catholic Church, told us in the late fourth century which New Testament era writings were to ba added to the Septuagint to form the Sacred Scriptures and to be read as the inspired word of God.

But you asked what was referred to in that passage and I answered you correctly. It was referring to the Old Testament since the New had yet to be written. And since the Church had yet to decree which writings from the early Church belonged to the canon of Sacred Scripture.

Again, your views are based on what you believe the Bible says about a certain matter. Your views have been formed, primarily by what you’ve been taught.

What you’ve been taught contradicts what the apostles taught and what the early Christians believed. We have ample evidence to show this.

Can you show us any evidence at all from the apostles or the early Christians that supports your assertions that the Catholic Church’s doctrines are in error or contradictory to what Sacred Sripture teaches?

We will wait.

Otherwise, we must conclude that your ideas are what they are - new inventions made up by men who wanted to start their own religions.

We will stick with what Christ gave us. After all, He promised He would head the Church and guide her into “all truth”.

…That Church was ONE in the first century.

It was ONE in the second, third and fourth centuries, too.

And, if we are to belive what Christ promised us, she is ONE today and protected from error by His Holy Spirit.

Actually, the Gospel did exist. It had been preached throughout the Old Testament and in the church before the epistles were written.
You’'re speaking here of the Oral Tradition. This is what the Catholic Church believes in. 👍

The New Testament didn’t even exist yet; it was not proclaimed to be Scripture until 405 AD, by Pope Innocent I.
