Fundamentalist Protestant Trolls on Youtube

Why are there so many?

When I was first learning the faith, I found them quite damaging so I tried to run away from them. Over the time though, I have gained significant knowlege about the Church, and am very excited about confirmation this Pentecoast!

Now however, whenever I read these peoples comments, I find them far from convincing. They always say the same, lame things:

Church Killed Millions
Church is the Beast

Etc.

They also make videos explaining how John Paul II, is somehow evil. Are these people serious? How can they accuse such a christian person like that. Modern day Pharisees?

Anyways back to the point. I believe we should make a group full of regular youtube users, to defend the Church from various protestants ‘regulars’. Some of these include: kiwichristian2009 and johnthreesixteen09 (or something like that anyway).
I just don’t want newcomers to the Church to have doubts because of these people.

What do you guys think? I know it’s a hard task, just make some suggestions I guess! 😊
 
These types also damage those of us who are evangelical and have no problem with Catholicism to dialogue and work together in matters such as pro-life events and other activities that further the cause of Christ. While my reference towards John Paul II and Benedict XVI differ, These two men have been the most influential voice and Christian voice in the world and for that I pray for them. When they speak the words of God, they have authority.

Thank you for not lumping all of us in with these uneducated “believers” who want nothing but division between anything that is not their created reality.
 
Youtube is just another outlet for peoples voices. There are also tons of videos made by people that believe in off the wall conspiracy theories even though said people often demonstrate in their videos that they don’t even have a basic knowledge of the subject they are addressing. Extreme voices are a side effect of letting anyone say what they want, and having access to the internet means that people need to learn to better filter out good information from bad information.

Also I wouldn’t call them modern day pharisees, that phrase gets thrown around a lot and I am sure would be used equally to describe Catholics by the fundamentalists. At this point it is just far to loaded and overused of a statement to really mean anything.
 
Rather than respond and acknowledge their efforts, I suggest we simply pray for them. Responding to one’s critics gives them a forum to expand their agenda, which would not be good for either party.

Besides, persecution should be expected. It’s in the membership manual!

I definitely think those of us who are called to be evangelists, do a tremendous work. I’d say that with the tools the Internet gives us, including YouTube, it empowers everybody from any point of view, no matter how constructive or damaging that view may be.

I’d say keep planting seeds and you have to decide if you want to try to weed the garden, because you don’t want to pull the good up with the bad. I say that in human judgment, it doesn’t hurt to try every now and then to pinch one off when it seems like you can catch it and isolate it. 😉

All that said, I think if we enjoy arguing, then argue. If we wish to pray for them, then do that. We each are called to bring our strengths together for His purpose.

For me, I don’t even know how to tell a weed from a vegetable, although I like to see the flowers of both, so I’d like to tend to the watering and maybe fertilizing, if I may.

So consider it absolutely optional for each of us, if we wish to take them head on, or just go our own way and help those people we can reach most easily? We don’t need to feel guilty if we pretend we didn’t hear it – we are wiser for hearing it but they don’t have to know we know, you know? 😛

I’d say we have permission to each exercise our own strengths and leave certain other tasks to others. That’s why His body has many diverse members.

That doesn’t mean we can’t compare notes and exchange ideas and approaches to the problem, just that we don’t each have to have the same job, or we’re really not working together to get all the work done that needs to be done, for the Lord.

One exercise might be to “think like a troll.” Think, what kind of absurd statements might they make, and then we can brainstorm on how we might react, or not. Then try to take it one step (or more) further, and see if you can imagine what they will do next. That will cause you, in your mind, to have to imagine “walking in their shoes” so you might be better able to serve that person.

My post here is threefold:
  1. Yes, I think it is wrong to compare people to being Pharisees just because they judge others. Let us not forget the Biblical History of what the Pharisees did. Not only did they judge people, but they could tell their congregations if they wanted a murderer punished or not (Barabas). They could tell the Roman authorities that they wanted to carry out their punishment on a criminal also found guilty under Roman law. And thats the biggest distinction: they not only read and interpreted the law, but they used their scholarship to carry out physical punishments for any Jews under their dominion who were in violation of the law.
    If you see anyone doing THAT, then you might be justified in calling them modern day Pharisees.
  2. Yes, we have to deal with other views on youtube. Hopefully any smart person will be able to navigate good vs bad information. As a former debater I sometimes feel like I meet this challenge TOO well, in getting 4 or 5 sources to confirm or get the most information on the exact same news story.
  3. As a frequent youtuber myself, there are already a number of Catholic apologists on youtube. The only 2 that I wish to comment on are:
    SeptemberCatholic (maybe SeptemberCatholic18)
    and “One True Church”
    September Catholic is a very legitimate apologist
    “One True Church” used to be a very legitimate apologist for the Catholic faith, but he eventually succumbed to the Sede-vacantist heresy.
Also, I think I’d be remiss in leaving out: Real Catholic TV.

I want to clarify that this post was for the fundamentalists that are currently attacking Catholic youtube videos. The latest video I have seen is ‘Padre Pio - Celebrates the Eucharist’.

I’m sorry if I didn’t make it clear about the pharisees. I was meaning, they accuse him, JPII, of being a modern day pharisee.

Because their religion requires virtually no education, no logic, no understanding of language and history - especially Church history. Critical biblical criticism is anathema to them. Ironically, this makes them fantasize that they are biblical scholars.

Because their religion encourages to an insane level the idea of “the priesthood of all believers”, wherein nearly anyone can shoot his/her mouth off with no consequences. Private interpretation-cum-fundamentalist prejudice inherently supplies them with a platform to spew their bilge.

These are some reasons as to why there are so many of them.
 
No, ridicule in its proper place is completely appropriate. Their claims invite derision, and would indeed be funny except for the damge they do, and the spiteful personalities they breed.

I know alot of people say it, but the atheist way of living is so, cold’ and 'lonely, I might say. It’s like, what is the point of living?

I came to the Church and it’s been one of the happiest things in my life. I’m so excited for confirmation. I’m scared to death of confession though. 😊
 
I have learned in my journey home that lerking in the comments section of some of these videos actually caused me to become more Catholic. On the comments for almost every one of these videos, there are always some Catholics who are willing to step up to the plate and defend our faith. What these fundamentalists fail to realize, is that in the end, they actually may end up winning more converts to our faith than to their side. Some of the Catholic commenters can rip these people’s videos apart, based soley on the video uploaders’ own hypocrisy, and other unChristian actions. Others, like myself, usually use Scripture to defend the Church, because Scripture is often the only language these people are even open to understand and listen to. In order to dialog with a Protestant fundamentalist, it’s best to know what they believe before you plunge into dialog with them.
 
I do find them quite tiresome. I don’t seek our Protestant videos and tell them how wrong they are. But it makes me wonder why the feel obliged to troll ALL Catholic videos? Do they just like to argue? And their arrogance can be overwhelming at times.
