I’ve been described as that and I’m confused

So unless there are other details you want to share, you are a good catholic and by no means fundamentalist.I say my Rosary daily like I have all my life, believe in Purgatory,go to mass weekly ,confession every so often, and as soon as possible if there’s a mortal sin,try to be pure in the books I read, music and movies,in my thoughts …pretty basic stuff I was taught as a child and try to continue![]()
or maybe people who say not to go to mass weeekly are mistakenSo unless there are other details you want to share, you are a good catholic and by no means fundamentalist.
-Daily rosary? Good. Just don’t tell other Catholics you need to do it. But highly recommended! (likewise with LoTH)
-Go to mass weekly: It’s mandatory. Anyone that tells you otherwise is a lukewarm catholic and is committing mortal sin
-Confession: Even assuming you do not commit mortal sins for years, frequent confession (once a week) is recommended. Whether daily is too much… well, what does your confessor/priest say? Oh, and of course, confess after mortal sin is a must. Now the problem is that you have people who do not consider some sins are mortal (eg: those related to 6th and 9th commandment, but also those related to anger, and those related to how we treat one another). I will tell you that you should confess them.
-Pure in books, music, and movies: Tough one. I think this is where you are far more likely to be attacked as fundamental catholic… BUT! I would rather say it was me being weak in accepting, as I know many medias are borderline pornographic. Oh, and violence too. Take a look as Ascendsion Presents Youtube channel, specifically on the comments to Father Mike re MMA. Ouch.
-Pure in thoughts: Good. Keep it up.
All in all, you are not fundamental in catholic, and if anything we should be glad that you are keeping in line with the teachings.
Sounds like a good Catholic to me.I say my Rosary daily like I have all my life, believe in Purgatory,go to mass weekly ,confession every so often, and as soon as possible if there’s a mortal sin,try to be pure in the books I read, music and movies,in my thoughts …pretty basic stuff I was taught as a child and try to continue![]()
A lot of people in the church have given instructions on modesty, not all of which are compatible with each other, nor all of which are intended to apply to every time and place in the world. While that particular statement is much-quoted, it flies in the face of both most other statements by Catholic leaders and of what is presented in the Catechism.i heard the Cardinal Vicar of Pius XI gave some instructions on modesty
Encouraging confession and going to mass when I knew there was p… being usedI’m curious - what context do you remember being described as a “fundamentalist” or “literal Catholic” in? Do you remember what beliefs you were espousing or what actions you were taking?
can you give some examples of other statements also, I want to see what they say? i agree the forms taken by modesty vary from culture to culture but of course there are also objective standards which Pius XII talked about.A lot of people in the church have given instructions on modesty, not all of which are compatible with each other, nor all of which are intended to apply to every time and place in the world. The catechism states that one should respect modesty, but that the form it takes is determined by the culture one is in. One would also note that the current dress code for the Vatican churches does not conform to the instructions you reference.
One thing I would beware of is overemphasizing one statement against the weight of all others.
