I have dutifully read all the posts and I’m surprised that no one has complained about funeral home shenanigans.
the funeral industry is VERY BIG and I don’t think there is a real way to interject some common sense consumerism into this business.
Funerals are a subject that we all tend to want to ignore, and, as a result, I feel, the costs of simply being buried are skyrocketing.
If ever there was a need for a parish ministry, it would be to help bereaved people through that process, particularly in reducing costs.
A few posts mentioned that the emphasis in a funeral Mass should be on Christ. Truthfully, I think there should be more emphasis on the hope of salvation, the promises of God, and the expectation of eternal life, for example.
And, for that matter, how often, if ever, do you hear a homily that dwells on the inevitability of death and the Christian attitude towards death?
